Lehigh Edged 12-10 to Loyola Friday Night

3/29/2024 9:31:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse

BALTIMORE - Trying to win its second straight Patriot League game, the Lehigh men's lacrosse team would be denied, falling 12-10 against Loyola Friday night at the Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore. Lehigh dropped to 4-5 (2-2 PL), and the Greyhounds improved to 4-6 (2-2 PL).

Lehigh held a 4-2 lead six minutes into the game, but the Greyhounds answered with three straight goals to take a 5-4 lead, and they would never lose their lead for the remainder of the game. The Greyhounds held Lehigh's offense scoreless for 15 minutes in the first half to help them take an 8-6 lead at the half.

The Greyhounds took a four-goal lead with 4:41 remaining in the third quarter, and while  Lehigh cut Loyola's lead to two goals twice in the fourth quarter, it would not be enough as the Greyhounds responded with an answer every single time.

Baltimore native Quinn Armstrong looked comfortable in his homecoming game, scoring a team-high of four points on three goals and one assist. Dakota Eierman (2G) and Andrew Kelly (2G, 1A) were the only other players besides Armstrong to net multiple goals. Scott Cole (1G, 1A), Richard Checo (1G) and Hunter Polonkey (1G) also scored a goal apiece.

Reigning Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Week Sean Dow had another dominating performance at the stripe, winning 19-of-26 attempts with nine ground balls, but the difference would be turnovers. The Mountain Hawks committed 24 turnovers, while the Greyhounds committed just 13. Despite Lehigh winning the faceoff battle, the Greyhounds held a 39-33 advantage in shots.

RIchard Checo and Nick Turrini both finished with a team-high of two caused turnovers apiece.
Nick Pecora made a game-high of nine saves for the Mountain Hawks, and Luke Staudt made eight saves for the Greyhounds.

Adam Poitras (5G)  and Evan James (4G) combined for nine of Loyola's 12 goals. Lehigh held a 40-34 advantage in ground balls on Friday.

The Mountain Hawks will close out their non-conference schedule on Tuesday at Princeton at 7 p.m.
