
Mountain Hawks Fall to No. 14 Princeton in Back and Forth Game

PRINCETON, N.J. - Lehigh men's lacrosse went back and forth with No. 14 Princeton in a game that featured six ties and eight lead changes, but the Mountain Hawks fell short on the road, falling 12-10 Tuesday night in the non-league finale. Lehigh fell to 4-6 overall and ended its non-league slate with a 2-4 record. Princeton improved to 7-3.Â
The Mountain Hawks led by as many as three goals two separate times on Tuesday. EJ Vasile gave Lehigh the 8-5 lead with 11:35 remaining in the third quarter, but the Tigers scored four unanswered goals to regain the lead. Hunter Polonkey tied things at 10 with 10:24 remaining in the fourth quarter, but Princeton scored the game's final two goals to secure the victory.Â
The game started off slow, with both teams scoring just one goal in the first quarter until Princeton leading scorer Coulter Mackesy found the back of the net right as time expired. Princeton held a one-goal lead multiple times in the opening half until Lehigh went on a 4-0 run in the second quarter. Quinn Armstrong gave Lehigh a 7-4 lead with 5:29 in the second quarter, but the Tigers scored the final goal of the half to cut the Mountain Hawks lead to 7-5 at halftime
Polonkey (2G), Andrew Kelly (2G) and Grant Rodny (2G) all netted two goals apiece for Lehigh. Armstrong (1G), Scott Cole (1G,1A), Tyler Lahey (1G)Â and Vasile were Lehigh's four other goal scorers on Tuesday.Â
Sean Dow dominated the stripe for the third straight game, winning 14-of-22 attempts with 10 ground balls. Despite Lehigh winning the faceoff battle on Tuesday, the Mountain Hawks committed 17 turnovers. Princeton was able to capitalize off of Lehigh's turnovers, holding a 44-34 advantage in shots. The Tigers committed 12 turnovers.
Richard Checo finished with a team-high of three caused turnovers. Luke McAuliffe also caused a pair of turnovers. Nick Pecora saved 10 shots on Tuesday. Michael Gianforcaro finished with 11 saves for the Tigers.Â
Mackesy led the way for Princeton with four goals while also scoring the game's final two goals.
