BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's basketball team picked up a 55-47 win over Colgate on Senior Day, also capturing the season sweep against the Raiders. Prior to Saturday's tip-off, Lehigh honored seniors Maddie Albrecht, Jamie Behar and Fabienne Eggenschwiler.
With the win, the Mountain Hawks moved to 16-12 (8-9 PL), and the Raiders dropped 16-11 (9-7 PL).
Down by as many as 12 points entering the third quarter, the Mountain Hawks closed out the final 8:37 of the quarter on a 19-4 run. Albrecht put Lehigh up 39-38 with 36 seconds remaining, and Lehigh would not lose its lead for the remainder of the game.
"We talked about our adjustments," said head coach Addir Micir. "Colgate is a team that plays really, really hard, and they are elite in the mid-range, and we needed to be a little bit closer, so we made those adjustments."
It was Albrecht, who gave Lehigh a three-point cushion heading into the final frame after she made a driving layup right before time expired. The Mountain Hawks would continue to extend their lead in the fourth quarter leading by as many as nine points with 4:40 remaining. Colgate cut Lehigh's lead to five points after back-to-back buckets, but the Mountain Hawks never wavered, making four free throws down the stretch.
Albrecht finished with a team-high 14 points, while also corralling five rebounds and dishing out one assist. Meghan O'Brien (11 points) was the only other player to finish in double figures. Albrecht was instrumental in helping give the Mountain Hawks the lead in the second half, scoring 10 of her 14 points in the third quarter.
Whitney Lind and Remi Sisselman were both close to finishing in double figures, scoring eight points. Lehigh was effective from the field, shooting 21-of-44 (44.7%). The Mountain Hawks struggled from long-range, making just one of their 12 attempts (8.3%). Colgate was 21-of-53 from the field (39.6%) and 3-of-15 from downtown (20.0%).
"We're a three and layups team," Micir said. "That's what we've been all year, so we knew if they were going to play us tight, we would have a chance to get to the rim, and how about Maddie Albrecht on her Senior Day?"
Colgate led 30-20 at halftime. Part of what led to Lehigh's early deficit was due to poor shot making, converting just seven field goals in the first half. The Raiders made 13 field goals in the first half, scoring all three of their three-pointers in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Both teams struggled to take care of the basketball on Saturday, committing 19 turnovers each.
Taylor Golembiewski finished with 17 points to lead the way for the Raiders. Tiasia McMillan (10 points) also finished in double figures.
The Raiders held a 29-27 advantage on the boards.
Lehigh will close out the regular season at Army on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at West Point, N.Y. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with audio coverage on Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM beginning at 5:45 p.m.
