WEST POINT, N.Y. - No. 1 Army West Point men's lacrosse proved to be too much to handle Saturday afternoon at Michie Stadium as Lehigh suffered an 18-12 loss. The Mountain Hawks dropped to 3-4 (1-1 PL), while Army improved to 7-0 (3-0 PL).Â
Senior goalkeeper Nick Pecora made a career-high 19 saves, but Army's offense was firing on all cylinders. The Black Knights completely dominated offensive possession on Saturday after Will Colletti won 22-of-33 faceoff attempts.Â
Lehigh was 11-of-33 at the stripe. First-year faceoff specialist Connor Reilly saw the first action of his collegiate career on Saturday, finishing 8-of-21 at the stripe. Army totaled 54 shots on Saturday, which is the most shots Lehigh's defense faced all season. The Mountain Hawks tallied 33 shots.Â
Senior attackman Scott Cole (3G, 2A) and sophomore attackmen Andrew Kelly (3G, 1A) and EJ Vasile (3G) all recorded hat tricks. Dakota Eierman, TJ Lahey and Grant Rodny also recorded one goal apiece.Â
Vasile opened up the scoring three minutes in to put Lehigh up 1-0, but Army responded exactly one minute later with an equalizer. Lahey put Lehigh up 2-1 eight minutes into the game, and that would be the last time the Mountain Hawks would hold a lead as the Black Knights went on a 5-0 run to end the quarter.
Lehigh opened up the second frame with three straight goals to cut Army's lead to 7-4, but that would be the fewest goals the Mountain Hawks would trail by for the remainder of the game.Â
Army closed out the quarter on a 3-0 run to take a 12-6 lead heading into halftime. The second half was a very even matchup between both team's as they each scored four goals in the third quarter and two goals in the third quarter.Â
The Black Knights first-half performance was too much to handle, as Lehigh could never claw back from its early deficit.Â
Jack Eicher led the way for Army with six points (4G, 2A). Matt Chess made 13 saves for the Black Knights on Saturday.Â
The Mountain Hawks committed 17 turnovers, and the Black Knights finished with 13 turnovers.Â
Lehigh returns home to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday to host Bucknell at 3:30 p.m.Â
