2/24/2024 10:32:00 PM | Women's Basketball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's basketball split the season series with Lafayette after suffering a 68-63 loss to the Leopards Saturday night at Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks dropped to 15-11 (7-8 PL), while the Leopards improved to 10-16 (5-10 PL).

One game after having its best shooting performance of the season, shooting 58.3% from the field, the Mountain Hawks struggled on Saturday, shooting just 32.8% from the field. The Leopards were 24-of-50 (48%) while Lehigh was 21-of-64..

Colleen McQuillen recorded a career-high of 25 points after going 10-of-17 from the field, Ella Stemmer had 15 points, and Remi Sisselman chipped in 10 points. Makayla Andrews tallied 20 points to lead the way for Lafayette.

The Leopards had 15 turnovers while the Mountain Hawks had 11 turnovers, but the difference would come down to shot making, and Lafayette won that battle on Saturday.

Despite the slim five-point margin there were only three ties and eight lead changes. The Mountain Hawks controlled the momentum in the first half, and the Leopards controlled the momentum in the second half.

Lehigh led 33-30 at halftime after the Mountain Hawks ended the second quarter on an 8-0 run. McQuillen nailed a jump shot right at the end to put Lehigh up by three. While Lehigh was up by three, the Mountain Hawks trailed by as many as five points after leading by six.

The third quarter would end up being the difference in the game as the Leopards outscored the Mountain Hawks 16-8. After Sauda Ntaconayigize made a three-pointer with 5:54 left in the third frame to put the Leopards up by three, Lafayette would hold the lead for the remainder of the game despite a valiant effort by Lehigh.

Lafayette led 46-41 at the end of the third quarter. Lafayette continued to build its lead in the second half, taking an 11-point lead with 5:17 to play. Lehigh trimmed Lafayetttte's lead to three with five seconds left, but Kay Donahue went down and made two free throws to seal the win for the Leopards.

Lafayette outrebounded Lehigh 41-33. Stemmer, Maddie Albrecht and Meghan O'Brien corralled a team-high of six rebounds.

The Mountain Hawks will travel north to take on Boston University on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
