
No. 15 Lehigh Falls to No. 2 Duke in NCAA Tournament First Round

DURHAM, N.C. – No. 15 Lehigh women's basketball suffered an 86-25 loss to No. 2 Duke on Friday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium in the NCAA Tournament First Round. The game marked Lehigh's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2021.Â
The Mountain Hawks concluded their 2024-25 season with a 27-7 record, while the Blue Devils improved to 27-7. Lehigh's 27 wins are the second-most in a season for the program, trailing only the 2009-10 team that went 29-4.
Lehigh secured its fifth Patriot League Championship with a win over Army on March 16, punching the Mountain Hawks' ticket to March Madness.
The first quarter was competitive, with Duke holding a 13-8 advantage at the end of the frame. Although Lehigh only trailed by five points in the second quarter, the Blue Devils exploded offensively, outscoring the Mountain Hawks 20-2 in the period. Lehigh managed just one made field goal in the second quarter.
Duke's defense stifled Lehigh's offense, limiting the Mountain Hawks to only six field goals over the final three quarters.
Duke opened the game with the first points 50 seconds in and never looked back, quickly launching a 6-0 run. Senior guard Ella Stemmer hit a three-pointer with 4:53 remaining in the first quarter, marking Lehigh's first points of the night.
Stemmer led the Mountain Hawks with a team-high eight points. Fifth-year senior wing Maddie Albrecht and senior guard Colleen McQuillen both added four points. Albrecht also made history, playing in her 136th career game, the most in Lehigh history, surpassing the previous record of 135 games held by Kristen Dalton '11.
Lehigh struggled offensively, shooting just 9-of-46 (19.6%) from the field and 2-of-15 (13.3%) from beyond the arc. Duke, on the other hand, shot 31-of-67 (46.3%) from the field and 11-of-29 (37.9%) from deep. The Mountain Hawks committed 30 turnovers, while the Blue Devils had 16.
Oluchi Okananwa led Duke with 15 points, while Delaney Thomas and Toby Fournier each finished with 11 points.
Duke will face No. 10 Oregon on Sunday in the Round of 32 at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
