
Lehigh's Winning Streak Snapped in Loss to Boston U.

BOSTON — Lehigh women's basketball saw its 12-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night at Case Gym, with the Mountain Hawks falling to Boston University, 80-68. The Mountain Hawks dropped to 23-5 overall and 14-2 in Patriot League play, while the Terriers improved to 11-16 and 5-11 in the league.
Boston University dominated in the first half, shooting 60% from the field and knocking down eight three-pointers. Alex Giannaros opened the scoring with a three-pointer just 90 seconds into the game, giving the Terriers a 5-2 lead. From that point, Boston University remained in control throughout the game.
Lehigh struggled offensively in the first half, shooting just 29% from the field, and the Terriers took a commanding 45-26 lead into halftime.
Giannaros led Boston University to victory, finishing with a game-high 29 points, including 7-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc.
For the second consecutive game, four Mountain Hawks scored in double figures. Fifth-year senior Maddie Albrecht and first-year forward Belle Bramer both led Lehigh with 14 points. Junior forward Lily Fandre added 11 points, and senior guard Ella Stemmer contributed 10. Senior guard Colleen McQuillen chipped in with nine points.
The Mountain Hawks began to chip away at the Terriers' lead in the second half, having trailed by as many as 23 points with just two minutes left in the second quarter. Lehigh went on an 8-0 run in the third quarter, cutting Boston University's lead to nine points with 2:59 remaining in the period. It was the first time since 3:29 in the first quarter that Lehigh trailed by single digits. However, Giannaros responded with a three-pointer to push the lead back into double digits.
At the end of the third quarter, the Terriers held a 59-48 advantage. Bramer hit a layup to start the fourth quarter, but Giannaros answered with a layup of her own to restore an 11-point lead. Boston University outscored Lehigh 21-20 in the final period, and despite the Mountain Hawks cutting the lead to as low as eight points, the Terriers had an answer each time.
Lehigh finished the game shooting 26-of-63 (41.3%) from the field and 3-of-23 (13%) from three-point range. In contrast, Boston University shot 27-of-49 (55.1%) from the field and 11-of-25 (44%) from beyond the arc.
The Mountain Hawks recorded 14 assists and Albrecht finished with a game-high five assists and four steals.
Next up, Lehigh will host Army on Saturday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day.
