BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh baseball opened their season at the Swig & Swine College Classic in Charleston, S.C. last weekend, going 2-1 with two massive Big Ten wins. A week later, the Mountain Hawks return to South Carolina for a three-game series with the Charleston Southern Buccaneers.
The Mountain Hawks (2-1) and the Buccaneers (2-2) will begin their series on Friday, February 23 at 4 p.m. followed by games on the 24th and 25th. The series will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools and Lehigh's first series against a Big South Conference institution since facing Longwood in 2017.
RHP Alex Bouchard is slated to start the weekend on the mound for Lehigh in game one after throwing three innings in the season opener against Ball State. He is slated to match up against LHP Sam Massey, who also started on the mound in the season opener for his team. RHP Cole Leaman will start game two against CSU's LHP Brett Gastman after throwing three scoreless innings in Lehigh's win over Michigan State. RHP Teddy Tolliver gets the nod in game three against LHP Matt Gallant after the senior earned the win over #20 Iowa.
Lehigh's first game of the season came against the defending MAC champions Ball State, who defeated the Mountain Hawks 8-4. However, Lehigh went on to shock the college baseball world in their next two matchups, defeating Michigan State 2-0 followed by an 8-4 win over #20 Iowa. The Mountain Hawks swept the Patriot League's first weekly awards for their efforts, as 1B/DH Justin Butler won Player of the Week, Tolliver earned Pitcher of the Week and RHP Julio Ermigiotti took home Rookie of the Week honors.
Charleston Southern hosted Delaware State for a three-game series to begin their season, going 2-1 against the Hornets. The Bucs then welcomed The Citadel for an in-state matchup on Tuesday, falling to the Bulldogs 15-4. Through their first four games, Cade Conway and Christian Bauman lead the Bucs with each player batting .375 so far this year. CSU is coming off of a 22-28 record in 2023, which was good enough for fifth place in the Big South.
There will be no broadcasts of this weekend's games, however, fans can follow along on live stats and social media. Like Lehigh Baseball on Facebook, follow on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram for exclusive content, team updates and more.
