BETHLEHEM, Pa. After preparing all fall and winter, Lehigh women's swimming and diving is just one day away from the 2024 Patriot League Championships, starting on Wednesday and ending on Saturday at Navy's LeJeune Hall. Â
The Mountain Hawks finished fifth last season at the Patriot League Championships. Lehigh is 4-4 this season and ended the regular season with a 162-138 loss to Bucknell on Jan. 20. Fifth-year Sarah Hardy was Lehigh's lone medalist last season, taking home two silver medals. Hardy took second in the 200-yard butterfly ( 1:59.23) and second in the 400-yard IM (4:19.64).
Hardy was one of five swimmers named to the All-Patriot League team last season, including Mairin Ludwig, Natalie Martin, Julia Stevens and Willa Werwaiss. Hardy was the only Mountain Hawk to land on the first team, while the other four swimmers landed on the second team.Â
Although Wednesday will mark the start of the Patriot League Championships, it will also be the fewest events as there will only be the women's 3-meter diving trials and some of the relays. Lehigh has three representatives in the three-meter diving trials. First-year Kate Whitaker is seeded 14th, junior Sarah Gill is seeded 16th, and Emma Camp is seeded 30th.Â
All three divers will also compete in the one-meter dive. Gill is right outside of the top 10 swimmers, coming in as the 11th seed.Â
On Thursday, there will be the 500-yard freestyles, the 200-yard IM finals, the 50-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle finals. Friday will feature the one-meter diving trials, the 100-yard butterfly, the 400-yard IM, the 200-yard freestyle, the 100-yard backstroke, the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard freestyle finals.Â
The final events of the Patriot League Championships will be the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard breaststroke finals, the 200-yard backstroke finals, the 400-yard freestyle relay finals and the 1650 freestyle.Â
The Mountain Hawks have two representatives that are seeded in the top 10 for the 200-yard butterfly, with Hardy coming in as the fourth seed and Stevens coming in as the seventh seed.Â
Sophomore Caitlin Deitch is seeded 11th out of 70 swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle and 13th out of 67 swimmers for the 100-yard freestyle. Werwaiss is the ninth seed in the 200-yard breaststroke. Fifth-year Danielle Prekop is seeded 19th in the 100-yard breaststroke out of 36 swimmers.Â
Live coverage of the 2024 Patriot League Swimming and Championships will be available each day on ESPN+.Â
