Lehigh Sweeps Patriot League's First Weekly Awards Of 2024

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a historic weekend that included wins over Michigan State and #20 Iowa, Lehigh baseball has swept Patriot League's first weekly awards of 2024. Justin Butler was named Player of the Week, Teddy Tolliver was named Pitcher of the Week and Julio Ermigiotti earned Rookie of the Week honors, the Patriot League announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Their selections come off the heels of a 2-1 weekend for the Mountain Hawks at the Swig & Swine College Classic in Charleston, S.C. Lehigh dropped their opening game of the season against 2023 NCAA Regional attendee Ball State before pulling off shocking upsets over Michigan State 2-0 and #20 Iowa 8-4. The Mountain Hawks hadn't won a game against a Big Ten opponent since 2008 before they defeated two in the span of two days.
Butler, a junior from Quakertown, Pa., thrived in his first weekend as a first baseman/designated hitter after spending his first two seasons as a catcher. Butler batted .417 on the weekend with six RBIs, three home runs, a 1.250 slugging percentage and a 1.750 OPS. He kicked off his season by going 2-4 with two RBIs, a double and a home run against Ball State before batting 3-5 with four RBIs and two home runs in Lehigh's win over the Hawkeyes.
Tolliver picked up his first career Pitcher of the Week award after throwing 6.1 innings and 102 pitches while earning the win against Iowa. The senior struck out three batters while only conceding two runs to the Hawkeyes. In addition, Tolliver retired the side 1-2-3 in two of his six full-innings pitched.
Ermigiotti, the first-year from Doylestown, Pa., earned the save in Lehigh's upset over Iowa. In his first-ever collegiate action, Ermigiotti tossed 2.2 innings while allowing zero runs down the stretch. He retired the side 1-2-3 in the bottom of the eighth and closed out the Hawkeyes in four batters in the bottom of the ninth.
The Mountain Hawks will return to Charleston this weekend for a three-game series against the Charleston Southern Buccaneers. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday, February 23.
