Mountain Hawks Narrowly Defeated 4-3 By Hofstra

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's tennis hosted their second of two home meets this week on Saturday morning, welcoming the Hofstra Pride to the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks were narrowly defeated by the Pride 4-3.
The Mountain Hawks earned the opening doubles point, winning all three matches for the second consecutive dual meet. Matt Kleiman and Marc Blekhman got things started with a win at number one closely followed by a 6-3 win from Jackson Morash and Aristotelis Bezianis at number two. Finally, Sean Jaeger and Jordan Paul earned a hard-fought 7-5 victory to sweep the doubles round.
Singles play began favorably for Lehigh, who jumped ahead to a 3-0 lead in the match thanks to wins from Bezianis at number three and Blekhman at number two, both of which only took two sets. However, the remaining four singles matches would each require a third set.
Hofstra picked up their first point of the afternoon courtesy of a 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 win for Maxim Michaels over Jaeger at number four. The Pride soon earned three-set victories at number five and number one, putting the Mountain Hawks in a 3-3 situation with only one match left for the second straight dual.
After falling 7-5 in the first set, Wyeth Anzilotti battled back to tie the match after earning a 7-5 win of his own in set two. Anzilotti and Hofstra's Vincent Turina battled all the way to a tiebreak in the third set, but Hofstra's player came out victorious to clinch the dual meet victory for the Pride.
The Mountain Hawks will have a week off in between competitions, next welcoming both Rider and Bryant to Bethlehem on Saturday, February 24. The match against Rider will begin at 9 a.m. while the team's bout with Bryant will start at 6 p.m.
