Lehigh Splits Doubleheader With Rider And Bryant

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's tennis hosted a doubleheader on Saturday, welcoming the Rider Broncs and the Bryant Bulldogs to the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks took care of business 4-0 against the Broncs and fell 4-2 to the Bulldogs.
Lehigh (3-5), who hadn't lost a doubles match since February 10, continued that streak against Rider (1-8) by claiming wins at all three doubles spots. Matt Kleiman and Marc Blekhman got things started with a 6-1 win at number one followed by a 6-3 win for Aristotelis Bezianis and Jackson Morash at number three. Sean Jaeger and Jordan Paul went all the way to a tiebreaker at number two, but came through 7-6 (7-5) to complete the sweep for Lehigh.
Leading 1-0, Lehigh picked up its second point of the morning thanks to a 6-4, 6-3 win from Kleiman, his third singles win of the season. Jaeger battled to a tiebreak win in the first set of his match against Rider's Cooper Dillon, following that up with a 6-2 set two win to put the Mountain Hawks only one win away from clinching the win. Blekhman finished shortly after with a 6-4, 6-2 win at number two to give Lehigh its third dual meet win of the year. Following the clinch, the rest of the matches between the Mountain Hawks and Broncs were left unfinished.
After going three straight duals without conceding a doubles match, Lehigh's streak ended against Bryant (8-3) when Jean-Christophe Baril and Myles Peterson defeated Bezianis and Morash 6-3 at number three. However, a 6-2 win from Jaeger and Paul at number two followed by a 7-6 (7-3) tiebreak victory for Kleiman and Blekhman at number one clinched the doubles point for the Mountain Hawks.
Opening singles competition with a win was Jaeger, who defeated Diego Trejo in three sets after dropping the first to take a 2-0 lead. The next three matches would all be decided in three sets as well, but the Bulldogs were able to claim narrow victories at all of those spots, including a 7-6 (7-3) win at number one for Otakar Ungerman over Kleiman. Play began with numbers five and six following the result of Blekhman's match at number two to decide the dual meet. The Bulldogs clinched the win the for their team after Myles Peterson defeated Morash in two sets.
The Mountain Hawks return to the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center next Friday, March 1 to host Morgan State. Matches are set to begin at 6 p.m. in Bethlehem.
