Lehigh Faces No.5/8 Cornell on Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh men's lacrosse is set to take on its second ranked opponent of the season as the Mountain Hawks play No. 5/8 Cornell Saturday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field. Opening faceoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. with coverage on ESPN+.
The Mountain Hawks are 1-1 this season and are coming off of a 8-7 victory over Fairfield last Saturday. The Big Red will open their season on Saturday.
Lehigh's only loss so far this season was a 14-12 loss to No.12/14 Rutgers. Cornell's 2023 season ended with a 15-14 loss to Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Mountain Hawks had a 6-1 lead on Fairfield, but the Stags battled back and made a late push. Dakota Eierman put Lehigh up 8-5, and the Stags would go on to score the next two goals. Eierman's goal would end up being the game-winner.
Nick Pecora made a season-high of 14 saves against Fairfield and finished with a career-high save percentage of 65%.
Richard Checo earned a Patriot League honorable mention on Feb. 12 after finishing with a team-hgh of four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Senior captain Scott Cole was one of 50 players named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List on Feb. 14. Cole has scored four goals this season and is six goals away from notching his 100th career goal. Sophomore attackman Andrew Kelly leads the way so far with two games in, notching a team-high of six goals.
The Big Red are led by CJ Kirst, who was a Tewaaraton Finalist last season. Kirst scored a team-high of 84 points last season (65 G, 19 A). Kirst and Hugh Kelleher were Cornell's two representatives on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List this season. Kelleher scored 24 points (22 G, 2A) last season).
Lehigh is 9-10-3 all-time against Cornell. The Mountain Hawks and the Big Red last met last season, and Lehigh suffered a 12-5 loss after Cornell ended the game on a 7-0 run. If the Mountain Hawks beat the Big Red, it would mark Lehigh's first win against Cornell since 1916.
Following Saturday's game, Lehigh returns to action against Dartmouth on Feb. 26 in a neutral site game that will be held at Trinity College.
