Lehigh Faces Michigan in First Road Test of the Year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's basketball will head to Ann Arbor, Mich., for its first road test of the year when the Mountain Hawks face off against Michigan Friday at 7 p.m. at the Crisler Center. Friday's game will air on B1G+.

Friday's game will be a homecoming game for Ann Arbor native and senior captain Ella Stemmer. Stemmer came to Lehigh by way of Saline High School, which is just six miles away from Michigan's campus.

Stemmer tallied three three-pointers in Lehigh's 83-59 win over LIU on Nov. 4 in the season opener and now ranks seventh all-time in made three-pointers with 147. Stemmer scored a three-pointer 30 seconds into the game against the Sharks and the Mountain Hawks would hold the lead for the remainder of the game. 

Fifth-year Maddie Albrecht led the way for Lehigh, scoring a game-high 15 points, six rebounds and four assists. Senior forward Meghan O'Brien also finished in double figures, scoring 14 points of her own after going 4-of-6 from the field. She also grabbed a career-high of six steals.

O'Brien wasn't the only one who shined defensively, the Mountain Hawks recorded 14 steals. Senior guard Colleen McQuillen also recorded nine points, three steals and three assists. The Mountain Hawks shot 32-of-56 (57.1%) against LIU. The Mountain Hawks were also 9-of-25 from downtown (36.0%). 

The Wolverines come into Friday's game 0-1 after falling to No. 1 South Carolina, 68-62 in the season opener on Nov. 4. Michigan held a 38-37 lead at the half, but the Gamecocks finished strong down the stretch. Syla Swords excelled in her collegiate debut, recording 27 points and 12 rebounds. Jordan Hobbs also finished with 19 points. 

Friday's game will mark the first meeting between the two teams. Lehigh is looking for its first win against a power four opponent since taking down Mississippi State 68-59 in overtime in 2010. Lehigh last played a Big Ten opponent in 2022, suffering a 101-99 loss to Minnesota.

Following Friday's game, the Mountain Hawks will take on their second Big Ten opponent on Sunday at 3 p.m. (ET) versus Northwestern.
