Lehigh Heads East For Midweek Showdown Against Columbia

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball will open their second week of the season on the road after playing away from Stabler Arena twice last week. The Mountain Hawks will face the Columbia University Lions on Tuesday at 7 p.m. from Levien Gymnasium.
Lehigh and Columbia have met one another 37 times, with the first matchup taking place in the 1962-63 season. The Lions lead the series 25-12, but the Mountain Hawks won the most recent matchup by way of a 79-72 victory on November 23, 2021 at Stabler Arena.
If Lehigh wins, head coach Dr. Brett Reed would earn his 14th win over an Ivy League opponent during his tenure as head coach. The Mountain Hawks would also extend their win streak over Columbia to two and pick up their first win of the 2024-25 campaign.
Lehigh opened the 2024-25 season on the road against Northwestern (11/4) and Georgetown (11/6). The Mountain Hawks suffered a 90-46 loss in their season opener to the Wildcats. Nasir Whitlock led the team offensively with 11 points. Lehigh's second game was much more competitive, as the Mountain Hawks fell 85-77 to the Hoyas. Four Mountain Hawks scored in double figures against Georgetown (Keith Higgins Jr. 22, Cam Gillus 21, Hank Alvey 14, Tyler Whitney-Sidney 13). Lehigh shot 47.5% from the field and 43.5% from three while the lead changed hands six times in the narrow road loss to their BIG EAST opponent.
The Lions have enjoyed a successful start to their 2024-25 campaign, going 3-0 in their first week of competition. Columbia defeated Patriot League side Loyola (Md.) on the road in their season opener by a slim 81-78 margin. Two days later, Columbia shocked the college basketball world with a 90-80 upset win on the road over Villanova. The Lions most recently played Delaware State on Saturday in their home opener, resulting in an 83-62 win. Columbia is led offensively by senior guard Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa who currently averages 21.7 points per game on 48.6%/45.5%/95.0% shooting splits.
Following Tuesday's matchup with the Lions, Lehigh will next take on UCLA in Los Angeles on Friday, November 15.
