Mountain Hawks To Open Season At Princeton Open Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh wrestling team will officially kick off the 2024-25 season on Sunday with more than 25 wrestlers expected to compete at one of two open tournaments. A majority of the Mountain Hawk contingent will head to New Jersey for the Princeton Open while others could head west for the Clarion Open.

The Princeton Open is the primary event on Lehigh's schedule. Wrestling begins at 9 a.m. from Jadwin Gym in New Jersey. Princeton will have 12 mats of wrestling action. Streaming video will be available on ESPN+ while brackets and live scoring can be found on FloArena.

Last year, Lehigh sent 35 wrestlers to the Princeton Open, with seven claiming individual titles and 16 placing in the top six in their respective weight classes.

Lehigh's individual champions from the 2023 Princeton Open were Luke Stanich (125), Ryan Crookham (133), Malyke Hines (141), Max Brignola (157), Jake Logan (165), Michael Beard (197) and Nathan Taylor (285).

The Mountain Hawks' contingent at the Clarion Open could feature Michael Beard (197) and Nathan Taylor (285) competing attached, and Luke Stanich (141) and Max Brignola (165) competing unattached.

Next weekend, the Mountain Hawks will compete at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic, Sunday, Nov. 10 at nearby Freedom High School, with the annual round-robin event beginning at 9 a.m. The dual meet season begins Nov. 15 when Lehigh, ranked 16th in the NWCA's preseason top 25, welcomes EIWA newcomer Morgan State to Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall for a 7 p.m. match.
