WEST POINT, N.Y. – The fall season continued this weekend for Lehigh men's tennis, as the Mountain Hawks traveled north for the Army Shootout. Lehigh faced the likes of Holy Cross, Army (Black and Gold teams), FDU, Hofstra, and Sacred Heart in both doubles and singles play from Friday, September 15 to Sunday, September 17.
Lehigh began the weekend on Friday with a singles dual against fellow Patriot League member Holy Cross. The Mountain Hawks dominated, winning all six singles bouts. Each match was won in two sets by the Lehigh player with the exception of senior Jordan Paul's match against Holy Cross' Camilo Illanes, which Paul won 6-2, 2-6, 10-6. Up next for Lehigh on Friday was a doubles match against Army Gold, which the Mountain Hawks dropped 3-0 in 4-6, 6-7 (5-7) and 1-6 results.
The Mountain Hawks then played in three different competitions on Saturday, beginning with a doubles match against FDU. The pairing of Matt Kleiman and Marc Blekhman started off the dual on a strong note, winning their match 6-3. Lehigh fell in the #2 doubles bout, but responded well to secure the win with a 6-1 win from Sean Jaeger and Benedict Horn-Bourque. Lehigh concluded play on Saturday with both a singles and doubles match against Hofstra. The Pride got the best of the Mountain Hawks in doubles 3-0 and in singles 5-1, with Lehigh's lone singles point coming via a 6-4, 6-5 win from Jackson Morash.
The final day of play at the Army Shootout began for Lehigh with a 2-1 doubles victory over Sacred Heart. Kleiman/Blekhman got things started at #1 with a 7-5 triumph followed by a 6-2 win for Sean Jaeger and Aristotelis Bezianis. Lehigh's final competition of the weekend was in singles play against Army Black, which proved to be a closely contested matchup. After Army won at #1 and #2, Paul earned a 6-1, 4-6, 10-2 win in the #3 slot. After Bezianis dropped his match at #4, Morash, Jaeger, and Horn-Bourque came through with wins to give the Mountain Hawks a tiebreaker win.
The Mountain Hawks will be back in action this upcoming weekend when they host the Lehigh Invitational. Matches will be played at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center and the Ulrich Varsity Tennis Courts on September 23-24.
