
Lehigh to Host St. John's in Season Opener, Square off Against Temple on Monday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh men's soccer will open up the 2023 season at home against St. John's on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
This will be the first of two straight home games as the Mountain Hawks will also host Temple on Monday at 6 p.m. before hitting the road for a four-game road trip.
Lehigh and St. John's met last year in Queens, N.Y., where the Red Storm came out on top 5-0. The Mountain Hawks are 5-1 all-time against the Red Storm. Lehigh last defeated St. John's 1-0 in 2018.
Both teams are fairly young. St.John's has 23 newcomers on its roster, while Lehigh has eight newcomers and 16 underclassmen.
St. John's finished 4-8-5 last season. Antek Sienkel led the way for St. John's last season with seven goals. In St. John's win against Lehigh last season, Sienkel recorded a hat trick.
Sinkel returns as the leading scorer for the Red Storm this season with seven goals.
Jason Pynadath is the leading point-scorer as far as returners for Lehigh. He netted a goal and three assists last season.
Last season, Lehigh averaged .94 goals per game and gave up 1.95 goals per game. St. John's averaged 1.06 goals per game and gave up 1.35 goals per game.
Lehigh returns most of its team on the defensive end, led by Sam Davis, Hassane Diakho, Beckett Wenger and more. The Mountain Hawks also have all four goalkeepers returning.
Lehigh will then host Temple on Monday at 6 p.m. The Mountain Hawks and the Owls also met last year, where Temple defeated Lehigh 1-0.Yann Koumei scored the game-winning goal. Lehigh is 10-8-3 all-time against Temple. The Owls were 4-9-3 last season.
Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
