Mountain Hawks Close Out Regular Season With 7-0 Shutout of Binghamton

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 7-0 shutout of Binghamton Sunday afternoon on the Ulrich Varsity Tennis Courts. On a day in which the Mountain Hawks honored senior Junmoke James, Lehigh dominated the visiting Bearcats, sweeping the doubles matches and winning all six singles flights in straight sets.

Lehigh heads into next week's Patriot League Tournament at 6-10.

James kicked off her senior day by teaming with sophomore Allyce Gaborik for a 6-0 win over Valeria Gonzalez and Bridget Martin at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Hamsa Javagal and first-year Bella Peters clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Abby Ackroyd and Loren Cuomo at No. 2, and the top team of juniors Anushka and Megha Dania made it a clean sweep with a 6-2 win over Lara Kaplan and Caterina Casadei.

Lehigh extended its lead to 2-0 as first-year Helena Cilella blanked Bridget Martin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. James followed with her second-straight singles win downing Ackroyd 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4.

Megha Dania won 6-0, 6-3 over Cuomo at No. 2 while Anushka Dania won 6-2, 6-1 over Gonzalez at No. 5 as Lehigh took a 5-0 lead.

Javagal dropped just four games in a straight set win over Kaplan at the top flight, while Gaborik prevailed in a second set tiebreak to defeat Casadei in straight sets at No. 3.

The Patriot League Tournament begins Thursday at West Point, N.Y. Lehigh will likely open the tournament with a quarterfinal match on Friday as seeds and the bracket will be unveiled Tuesday.
