Lehigh Falls 14-11 to Boston University

BOSTON-  In a scrappy game, which was a rematch of the 2022 Patriot League semifinals, the Lehigh men's lacrosse team was defeated by Boston University, 14-11 Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

The Mountain Hawks fell to 8-4 (5-2 PL), and the Terriers improved to 9-3 (6-1 PL).

A slow start for Lehigh would ultimately end up being the difference. Boston University held the Mountain Hawks scoreless for over 15 minutes after Scott Cole scored  with 9:51 to play in the first quarter to tie things at one.

The Terriers scored four unanswered goals before John Sidorski ended the Terriers 4-0 run with a goal of his own. He scored that goal with 3:01 left to play in the first half as Boston University led 5-2 at the break.

Lehigh committed a penalty right before halftime, which put the Terriers on a man-up heading into the third quarter. Boston University was able to capitalize to go back up by four.

The second half would be a high-scoring half for both teams after a low-scoring first half. Lehigh cut the deficit to two with 8:31 to play in the third quarter and looked like it was going to make a run, but the Terriers went on a 2-0 run. Every time the Mountain Hawks would respond, the Terriers would answer right back.

The Terriers went up by five with 1:16 remaining in regulation, which would be the biggest lead of the game. Scott Cole scored two goals in 18 seconds to cut the deficit to three, but there would not be enough time to come away with a comeback.

Cole had four goals on Saturday. Christian Mule' led the way for Lehigh with five points (2G, 3A).

Fifth-year senior faceoff specialist Mike Sisselberger won the battle at the stripe. He was 17-of-28 at the faceoff "x." Despite Lehigh winning offensive possessions, the Mountain Hawks turned it over 23 times. Boston University also struggled to take care of the ball. The Terriers had 20 turnovers.

Penalties proved to be costly for Lehigh as well. The Mountain Hawks committed five penalties, and the Terriers were 4-of-6 on extra-man opportunities.

Junior goalkeeper Nick Pecora had 10 saves for Lehigh. Matt Garber had 14 saves for the Terriers.

Louis Perfetto had a game-high of seven points (4G, 3A) for Boston University.

The Mountain Hawks will close up the regular season on Friday against Loyola at home in a 7 p.m. battle against the Greyhounds.
