Cole Lifts Lehigh to 15-9 Victory Over Loyola

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's lacrosse team captured a huge 15-9 win over Loyola Friday evening in the regular season finale for both teams at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The Mountain Hawks clinched the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will host No. 6 Lafayette in the Patriot League quarterfinals Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Lehigh closed the regular season at 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the Patriot League. Loyola is now 7-7 overall and 4-4 in the league. Friday's win marked Lehigh's second-ever win against the Greyhounds. The first one came in 2021 at home.Â
Scott Cole had a monster performance to lead the way for Lehigh. He had a career-high of eight points, scoring seven goals and dishing out an assist.Â
It was Quinn Armstrong's goal that put Lehigh up on top to start the game.The Greyhounds tied it at one, but the Mountain Hawks would not let the lead go for the remainder of the game.Â
The Mountain Hawks scored three unanswered goals in the first quarter to take an early 5-2 lead. Lehigh's fast start set the tone.Â
Two-time all-american Mike Sisselberger was a big reason why Lehigh was able to gain offensive possession. He was 20-of-25 at the faceoff "x." Sisselberger also hit two milestones in Friday's game. He became the all-time ground ball leader in the Patriot League. He surpassed Bailey Savio's record of 472 ground balls.He now has 475 ground balls. Sisselberger also won his 700th career faceoff.Â
Cole was one of five different Mountain Hawks to record multiple points. Justin Tiernan had six points (3G, 3A), Christian Mule' had three points (2G, 1A) John Sidorski had three points (2G, 1A) and Armstrong had two goals.Â
Lehigh had a 7-4 lead at the half. The Mountain Hawks would not let up in the second half. They allowed just one goal in the third quarter. Adam Poitras' goal late in the third quarter ended a 20-minute scoring drought for the Greyhounds.
The Mountain Hawks would go on to have a strong fourth quarter to lift them to victory.
Junior goalkeeper Nick Pecora had a strong night in the net for Lehigh. He finished with 15 saves and a save percentage of 62.5%. This marked the fourth game and fourth time in five games that Lehigh's defense allowed just single-digit goals.
Matthew Mincus and Poitras both tallied four points to lead the way for Loyola.
Freeman Whitaker had 11 saves for Loyola. Max Watkinson came in at the end for the Greyhounds and tallied a save.Â
