BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's lacrosse team will take on Boston University Saturday at noon in a highly-anticipated game that will be televised on CBS Sports Network.Â
Both teams are 8-3 overall and 5-1 in Patriot League play. They have both already clinched a spot in Patriot League Tournament. A win would be very significant for tournament seeding with just two league games left for both teams.
Lehigh clinched a spot in the Patriot League Tournament for the 12th straight year after defeating Colgate 15-8 on Sunday. Lehigh's starting attack combined for 17 points to help lift the Mountain Hawks to victory.
Junior goalkeeper Nick Pecora had 15 saves and finished with a season-high save percentage of 65.2%. Pecora was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday after his performance. This marked the second time this season he earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
Lehigh's defense has allowed single-digit goals in the last three games. First-year Richard Checo tallied his 43rd caused turnover of the season on Sunday and now owns Lehigh's single-season record for most caused turnovers. He leads all of NCAA DI men's lacrosse in caused turnovers per game (3.90). He surpassed Craig Chick's record of 42 caused turnovers in (2019).
Fifth-year faceoff specialist Mike Sisselberger was named a Tewaaraton nominee for the third time in his career on Thursday. He's just one of 25 nominees and the only one from the Patriot League.Â
Lehigh is 7-3 all-time against Boston University. The Mountain Hawks suffered two one-goal losses to the Terriers last season. In the first meeting, Lehigh was defeated 9-8 at home. In the second meeting, which was also the Patriot League Semifinals, Timmy Ley scored the game-winner to send the Terriers to the Patriot League Championship. Lehigh rallied after trailing 11-6 and was able to tie it, but it was the Terriers who came out on top.
Boston University went on to win the title. Saturday's game will mark the first meeting since that semifinal game.
Lehigh is winning 64.2% of its faceoffs this season, led by Sisselberger, and Boston University is winning 51.5% of its faceoffs.Â
Saturday's game will feature the top three point scorers in the league. Scott Cole leads the league in points per game (5.27). Christian Mule' is next with 5.18 points per game, and Boston University's Vince D'Alto is third with 4.91 points per game.
The Mountain Hawks will close out the regular season at home against Loyola on April 28 at 7 p.m.
