Sisselberger Named Tewaaraton Nominee For Third Time

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh men's lacrosse fifth-year faceoff specialist Mike Sisselberger was named a nominee for the Tewaaraton Award, as announced Thursday afternoon. Sisselberger is one of just 25 players to be named a nominee and the lone student-athlete from the Patriot League.Â
The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are comprised of premier college coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
Five men's and five women's finalists will be selected from these groups, to be announced May 11 at the conclusion of the regular season.Â
This is the third straight year that Sisselberger has been named a nominee. He is the only three-time Tewaaraton Award nominee in program history. The Center Valley, Pa., native is one of three face-off specialists on the list.Â
Sisselberger is having an incredible season. He ranks first in the nation in face–off winning percentage (66.0%) and second in ground balls per game (11.55). Sisselberger was named an Inside Lacrosse Midseason Media All-American earlier this season. Since then, he has lost just 12 of his last 67 faceoffs. The two-time Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Year has already been named the Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Week four times this season.
In Lehigh's 11-8 win over Bucknell on April 8, the two-time All-American had a career-best performance. He won 20-of-21 faceoffs, scored a goal and grabbed 11 ground balls.
Sisselberger, who holds many records in the Patriot League and the NCAA, is just 20 ground balls away from tying the Patriot League record for career ground balls (472). In 2021, Sisselberger set an NCAA record in faceoff win percentage. He won 79.5% of his faceoffs.
Sisselberger and Lehigh are set to take on Boston University in Boston on Saturday at 12 p.m. Saturday's game is set to air on CBS Sports Network.
