EASTON Pa.  — The Lehigh men's track and field squad won 15 events en route to a 126-76 victory against rival Lafayette in the annual Lehigh-Lafayette outdoor dual meet, hosted by the Leopards at Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex.

"In the field, we won seven of the eight events. On the track, we won eight of the eleven total events.  It takes a total team effort to be able to score 126 points in a dual meet and I am really proud of how focused and determined everyone was," noted head men's track and field coach Todd Etters.

Throws
Junior Achilles Mouzakis won the hammer throw with a PR distance of 55.01 meters, putting him fourth all-time, while sophomore Ethan McHugh also reach a personal best with a mark of 40.91 meters.

Sophomore Liam Lovering took home first place in the discus with a throw of 48.79 meters, good enough for 10th all-time. First-year Wil Jaques then finished fifth in the discus with a mark of 37.54 meters.

Lovering also won the shot put, reaching a PR distance of 15.57 meters with first-year Joe Nowakowski finishing third with a mark of 13.63 meters.

Jaques claimed first the javelin, hitting a mark of 55.61 meters for a PR and took over 10th all-time in program history. Sophomore Greg Stagliano threw a distance of 53.72 meters for third place.

"Our throwers did an outstanding job," stated Etters. "We really took away one of Lafayette's strengths by winning all four throwing events. A lot of credit goes to Coach Taub and the throwers because they often perform away from the limelight. They have a great culture and they have consistently shown to be a significant reason for our team's success."

Jumps
Lehigh swept the long jump with sophomore Mulenga Malama reaching 6.42 meters for first place while sophomore Jordan Layos and first-year Daniel Givens finished second and third respectively with PR marks of 6.23 meters.

Just like the long jump, the Mountain Hawks claimed the top three spots in the high jump, with senior Brittann Pierce and junior Eli Aaronson finishing tied for first at a height of 1.90 meters, a new PR for Aaronson. Sophomore Gideon Coprivnicar ended up third clearing 1.86 meters. Mott took home first place with a PR leap of 13.62 meters while Malama reached 13.24 meters for a personal best.

Sophomore Jack Murphy and  Coprivnicar finished second and third in the pole vault, with Murphy clearing a personal best 4.40 meters and Coprivnicar's PR mark of 4.25 meters.

"The jumps squad racked up 29 total points out of a possible 32 while winning three of four events.  We showed a lot of depth in these events and it was fun to see a lot of different student-athletes step up and perform so well," added Etters.

Sprints
The Brown and White swept the 110-meter hurdles with junior Daniel Stipanov winning the event in 15.34 seconds while Coprivnicar finished second in a time of 16.19 seconds and senior Vincent Polignano crossing the finish line in 16.67 for third.

Sophomore Patrez Thomas took home first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.25 seconds while classmate Jack Murphy crossed the finish line in 58.11 seconds for second place.

Senior Amondo Lemmon won the 400-meter dash in a time of 50.70 seconds with sophomore Ethan Hood finishing third in 52.03 seconds.

In the 100-meter dash, senior John Siani finished in 11.17 seconds for second place while first-year Niko Cruz (11.37) and senior Jack Bush (11.59) finished third and fourth. Siani took home another second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a PR time of 22.62, with Bush coming in third in a personal best 23.32 seconds and Stipanov finishing fourth.

In the 4x100-meter relay, the squad of senior Andrew Roman, Siana, Lemmon and junior Dan Stipanov finished second in a time of 43.61 seconds, .33 seconds behind the Leopards.

Stipanov earned a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.11 and then posted a PR time in the 200-meter dash. Also competing in the 200-meter dash was senior Andrew Roman, who posted a personal best time of 22.58 seconds and was the first Mountain Hawk to finish the event.

In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomores Patrez Thomas and Jack Murphy finished second and third respectively, with Thomas finishing in second place with a time of 54.41 while Murphy completed the race in 57.72 for third place.

"On the track, we were outstanding and we got a lot of contributions across all the events," commented Etters. "We looked relaxed, composed, and confident. The type of racing that happens in a dual meet will serve us well in a few weeks at the Patriot League Championship meet."

Mid-Distance/Distance
The team of seniors Kerem Ayhan, Joseph Cranley, Lemmon and Bush claimed first place in the 4x400-meter relay, completing the race in 3:25.13, almost eight seconds ahead of the Leopards.

Ayhan and Cranley then turned in first and second-place finishes in the 800-meter run, with Ayhan winning with a time of 1:56.31 and Cranley's second-place performance in 1:57.21.

The Mountain Hawks swept the 1,500-meter race with senior Jacob Martinez taking home first place after completing the event in 4:08.08. Sophomore Aidan Lynch (4:08.18) was right behind him for second place and first-year Daniel Malatesta earned a third-place finish after turning in a time of 4:10.20.

Seniors Tyler French and Riley Williamson finished first and second respectively in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with French completing the race in 9:39.66 and Williamson finishing in a PR time of 9:44.80.

In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Kevin Harvey took home first place after crossing the finish line in a time of 15:41.69 seconds.

"In track and field, a dual meet really boils down to which team competes better.  I think it is our sport at its best and I am really grateful that we have an opportunity three times a year to face our rival head-to-head to showcase our sport and our team," concluded Etters.

The Mountain Hawks' next meet will be Friday and Saturday, April 7-8 when they host the Lehigh Games at the Goodman Track and Field Complex.
