BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh men's lacrosse first-year Richard Checo and fifth-year Mike Sisselberger both earned Patriot League weekly awards, as announced by the league Monday afternoon.
This is Sisselberger's second straight week earning Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Week honors and the fourth time this season. Sisselberger had a career-high performance against Bucknell in the 11-8 win. He won 20-of-21 faceoffs, picked up 13 ground balls and scored a goal, which put Lehigh up by three heading into halftime.
In his last two games, Sisselberger has gone 39-of-43 at the stripe. The two-time All-American is having another impressive season. He's leading the nation in faceoff win percentage (65.9%) and is second in ground balls per game (11.60).
Checo was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Checo continues to show why he was named an Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-American. He caused a game-high of four turnovers, grabbed three ground balls and dished out an assist in Lehigh's win over Bucknell. He has caused 39 turnovers to lead all Division I men's lacrosse players and is just three caused turnovers away from tying Craig Chick's single-season record for caused turnovers (42).
Sisselberger and Checo will return to action on April 15 at 12 p.m. against Colgate. This game will also be Senior Day, and it will be aired on CBS Sports Network.
