Lehigh Finishes Scarlet Knight Open With Strong Performances

NEW YORK - As the Patriot League Championships quickly approach, the Lehigh women's track and field team continues to shine, adding more all-time additions and ECAC qualifiers each weekend. The Mountain Hawks wrapped up the Scarlet Knight Open with 11 top ten performances, one all-time addition and two ECAC qualifiers.
Lehigh had several impressive performances on the first day of the meet, tallying eight top ten performances at the Armory on Friday. In the sprints, Ashley Struck continued to have a stellar junior season for the Mountain Hawks, finishing eighth overall in the 400m with a time of 57.85. First-year Grace Kennedy followed suit, finishing tenth with a personal best of 58.06.
The Mountain Hawks' distance runners shined on Friday, with junior Christina Yakaboski picking up the first ECAC qualifying time of the weekend. Yakaboski finished 12th overall in the 1000m with a time of 2:55.72. Senior Andrea Miller was the second Mountain Hawk to finish the weekend with an ECAC qualifying time. Miller, who finished sixth overall in the mile, is now tied for sixth all-time in Lehigh history with her personal best of 4:55.51.
Following Yakaboski and Miller's performances, Lehigh went on a tear in the 5000m, with three student-athletes finishing in the top ten. Sophomore Savanah Beavers was the top finisher for Lehigh, finishing second with a personal best of 17:43.44. Juniors Andrine Larsen (17:53.75) and Abigail Tenreiro (17:59.39) earned top ten finishes, finishing fifth and eighth, respectively.
Lehigh ended Friday with two more top ten finishes, this time in the long jump. Senior Avery Roze earned a new personal best in the long jump, finishing seventh overall with a mark of 5.43m. Sophomore Keisha Modi finished ninth overall with a mark of 5.35m.
The Mountain Hawks continued to shine as they returned to the Armory on Saturday for the final day of competition. Lehigh finished the day with nine top 15 performances, three of which were in the top ten.
In the sprints, sophomores Stephanie Webb and Lillian Mauger secured respective 13th and 14th place finishes in the 60m. Webb finished with a time of 8.14 while Mauger was close behind with a time of 8.16.
Senior Ashley Griesmeyer continued to shine in the 60m hurdles, finishing 12th in the prelims with a time of 8.91. Chelsi Chevannes also had success in the 60m hurdles, winning the unseeded race with a personal best of 8.75.
Lehigh's sprinters continued to put up impressive times as Struck finished 14th in the 200m with a time of 25.41. First-year Gianna Mangili, who ran alongside Struck, picked up a new personal best, finishing the race in 26.15.
Lucy Afanasewicz was the final Mountain Hawk to secure an individual top 15 performance on the track. The first-year finished 11th in the 3000m with a time of 10:08.32.
The Mountain Hawks ended the day on the track in the 4x400 relay. Mauger teamed up with graduate student Lauren Powell, junior Simone Davey and first-year Amber Barrios to earn an 11th place finish with a time of 4:04.55.
Lehigh ended the meet with two more top ten performances in the field events. First-year Laura Reigle continued to shine in her first season as a Mountain Hawk, finishing fourth overall with a mark of 3.98m. In the triple jump, sophomore Casey Talamini-Kelemen finished ninth overall with a mark of 11.65m.
The Mountain Hawks will travel to the Ocean Breeze Complex for the second time this season to compete at the Big Apple Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 11. Lehigh will then travel to Lewisburg, Pa. on Friday, Feb. 17 to compete in its final meet of the regular season at the Bucknell Tune Up. The Mountain Hawks will wrap up the indoor season on Feb. 25-26 in Annapolis, Md. at the Patriot League Championship, which will be hosted by Navy.
