Mountain Hawks Close Out the Weekend with 5-2 Win Over Morgan State

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Mountain Hawks bounced back and ended the weekend with a 5-2 victory over Morgan State inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.Â
Lehigh opened up the match by battling with the Bears during doubles play. The Mountain Hawks were unable to clinch the doubles point and trailed 1-0 going into singles. At the No. 2 spot, junior Jordan Paul and sophomore Sean Jaeger picked up their second straight doubles win, defeating Makkijha Brown and Martial Kawunde 6-1.Â
The Mountain Hawks refused to back down during singles play, winning the first three singles matches to take the 3-1 lead. Paul picked up his fourth win of the weekend at the No. 4 spot. The junior defeated Brown 6-2 in two sets.Â
With the score tied at 1-1, sophomore Marc Blekhman earned his second singles victory of the weekend to give the Mountain Hawks the 2-1 lead. Blekhman defeated Morgan State's Rhajzon Rankins 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 3 spot. Following Blekhman's win, senior Jeremy Learner secured a singles win of his own, defeating Niles Rachal 6-0, 6-7 [2-7], 7-6 [7-2] to give Lehigh the 3-1 lead.Â
Morgan State won its final match of the day at the No. 1 spot to bring the Bears back within one. The Mountain Hawks would not back down, picking up wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spot to secure their fourth win of the season.Â
At the No. 6 spot, first-year Wyeth Anzilotti clinched the win for Lehigh, defeating Kawunde 6-0 in two sets. Fellow first-year Aristotelis Bezianis closed out the match with a win of his own, defeating Morgan State's Bertin Karenzi 7-6 [7-4], 6-2.Â
Lehigh will close out the month of February with two more matches inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks will host Siena on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. and will end the month with a 12 p.m. match against LIU on Sunday, Feb. 26.Â
The Mountain Hawks will take time to rest and recover before traveling down to Orlando, Fla. for spring break. Lehigh will compete against IUPUI on Sunday, March 12 and will end spring break with a match against James Madison on Tuesday, March 14.Â
