Lehigh Suffers Loss to Loyola (Md.) on Senior Night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – On a night that the Lehigh men's basketball squad honored their four graduating seniors, Loyola (Md) celebrated the win by taking down the Mountain Hawks 91-82 inside Stabler Arena Saturday. The game was also 3s for a Cure, presented by Red Robin in partnership with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Prior to tipoff, Lehigh honored its senior class of Jakob Alamudun, Jake Betlow, Reed Fenton and Evan Taylor. The quartet was celebrated for their accomplishments on and off the court.
2022-23 Men's Basketball Seniors

Lehigh (14-11, 9-5 PL) has lost two in a row and three of its last four games while Loyola (9-18, 4-10 PL) earned a season series split with the Mountain Hawks and snapped a three-game losing streak. The Greyhounds have now won three straight games in Stabler Arena.

Lehigh started off with a 4-0 lead from a jumper from sophomore Keith Higgins Jr. and a pair of free throws by classmate Tyler Whitney-Sidney. The Greyhounds took their first lead of the night at 7-6, which started the back-and-forth affair for the rest of the half. The Mountain Hawks managed to pull ahead by as many as eight points on multiple occasions, the last time at 46-38 with over a minute to play. Loyola came down the court and sank a floater for the half's final points, sending Lehigh into the locker room with a 46-40 advantage.

The second half began with the likes of Higgins Jr. and Whitney-Sidney combining to score the first seven points to extend its lead to 13 points, 53-40, forcing Loyola to call a timeout. The Greyhounds began to chip away at the lead. After a Chris Kuzmenka three-pointer that gave Loyola the lead, the Greyhounds held its advantage or were tied for the next three minutes. Higgins Jr. drained a three-pointer to give Lehigh a two-point lead, 81-79, with 3:19 remaining, but Loyola countered with a three of their own and drew a foul to covert a four-point play to put the Greyhounds on top, 83-81. Down the stretch, the Brown and White were only able to muster one free throw as Loyola pulled away with made free throws and defeated Lehigh 91-82
 
Higgins Jr. was one of four Mountain Hawks to finish in double-figures, leading the team with 23, shooting 70 percent (9-for-14) from the field with three three-pointers and was 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. He was held to just five points in the first half but turned in 18 second-half points. Whitney-Sidney contributed 18 points for the Mountain Hawks and scored 16 of his points from the foul line, finishing 16-for-18 on the night. He also led the team with seven assists while adding five rebounds.
 
Junior Dominic Parolin tossed in 10 of his 14 points in the first half, finishing 7-for-8 from the field (87.5 percent) with three boards, an assist and a steal as Taylor rounded out double-digit scorers with 13 points and team-leading seven rebounds and two assists.A trio of Mountain Hawks, Alamudun, Fenton and junior JT Tan, each scored four points. Alamudun added a rebound and a steal while Fenton dished out three assists with a steal. Tan connected on both of his shots and brought down two boards while sophomore Ben Knostman had two points, three boards, three assists and a steal.
 
Loyola had four Greyhounds finish in double-digits, led by Deon Perry's 28 points with six three-pointers. Andrews contributed 19 points, followed by Faure with 16 and Kuzemka with 11 on the evening.

Lehigh shot 52.9 percent (27-for-51) from the floor while shooting 31.6 percent (6-for-19) from long distance while Loyola shot 53.3 percent (32-for-60) and 58.8 percent (10-for-17) from behind the three-point line.

The Mountain Hawks committed eight turnovers that Loyola turned into 10 points while the Greyhounds were forced into six miscues that Lehigh turned into six points. The Brown and White were out-rebounded 35-22 and allowed the Greyhounds to grab 11 offensive rebounds to Lehigh's two. The Mountain Hawks did hold the edge in points in the paint, 34-30, and fast break points, 17-7.

The Mountain Hawks are back in Bethlehem to host Navy on Wednesday night in Stabler Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
