Mountain Hawks Drop Patriot League Matchup to Navy

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's basketball squad suffered its third consecutive loss on Wednesday evening as Navy defeated the Mountain Hawks 75-64 in Patriot League action inside Stabler Arena.
The Mountain Hawks (14-12, 9-6 PL) fell to the Midshipmen for the first time since January 2021, snapping their three-game win streak in the series. Navy (16-11, 9-6 PL) splits the season series with Lehigh by capturing this win and now is tied with the Mountain Hawks in second place in the Patriot League standings.
Navy opened the contest with a jumper before Lehigh scored back-to-back baskets for a 4-2 lead before a Midshipman trey put Navy back in front. The Midshipmen would take a double-digit lead early, 14-4, and again at 27-17 with 8:07 remaining in the half. Lehigh would come within five points, 27-22, before Navy pushed its way back in front by 13 points, 35-22 with 3:54 to play in the first. Lehigh would score the final six points of the half and the Midshipmen would take a 35-28 lead into the locker room.
Senior Evan Taylor started the second half with a pair of free throws followed by sophomore Tyler Whitney-Sidney draining a three-pointer to cut the Navy lead to four, 37-33. Junior JT Tan tied the game at 40-40 after a layup, then sophomore Keith Higgins Jr. tied things up again at 46-46 with 14:14 on the clock. A pair of free throws were knocked down by junior Dominic Parolin to give Lehigh a 48-46 advantage, but Navy would get back in front 52-49. Higgins tied the game again with a three-pointer, 52-52 with under nine minutes left.
Higgins Jr. scored the go-ahead bucket on a driving layup to put the Mountain Hawks up 56-54, but Navy scored the next 13 points to reach another double-digit lead, 67-56, with 2:46 to go. Lehigh got within seven points, but the Midshipmen would hold on for the 75-64 win.

Taylor and Higgins Jr. ended the night with 14 points each. Taylor shot 5-of-19 from the field with two three-pointers and six rebounds while Higgins Jr. was 5-for-11 from the floor and also recorded two treys to go with two steals, two boards and an assist.
Whitney-Sidney tossed in 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds while shooting 4-for-10 from the field and 4-for-4 at the foul line. Also reaching double-digits was Parolin with 10 points, four boards, and an assist. Tan finished with nine points and four rebounds to go with a blocked shot. Junior Jalin Sinclair and sophomore Ben Knostman finished the night leading Lehigh with three assists while Knostman scored a bucket and senior Reed Fenton made a shot for two points and had two assists.

Navy had four Midshipmen finish in double-figures, with Daniel Deaver leading the way with a double-double, scoring 17 points and bringing down 13 rebounds. Sean Yoder and Patrick Dorsey both contributed 13 points while Tyler Nelson scored 12 points for the Midshipmen.
The Brown and White shot 38.1 percent (24-for-63) from the floor while shooting 21.7 percent (5-for-23) from long distance while the Midshipmen shot 43.1 percent (28-for-65) and 31.3 percent (5-for-16) from behind the three-point line.
Both squads committed 11 turnovers each and Lehigh scored 11 points off those miscues while Navy recorded 10. The Brown and White were out-rebounded 44-35 but still managed to score more points in the paint, 32-30.
The Mountain Hawks are on the road for their next game, traveling to Washington D.C. to take on American. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
