Lehigh began hosting the Sheridan Tournament in 1979, coinciding with the opening of Stabler Arena, with the event held annually through December 1999. The tournament was originally conceived by Lehigh head coach Thad Turner to honor the legendary Billy Sheridan. From 2000-2003, Lehigh hosted the Sheridan Duals, a series of duals in which the Mountain Hawks faced three opponents on the first or second Saturday in December at Stabler Arena. Beginning with the 2004-05 season, Lehigh honored its legendary former coach with a single dual against a high-profile opponent. That tradition began with a February 2005 dual against No. 1 Oklahoma State that drew 5,818 fans to Stabler Arena. This year, the recognition of coach Billy Sheridan returns to its original tournament format.

First-year Ryan Crookham won by major decision to move to 9-0 on the season and give No. 20 Lehigh an early lead but No. 11 Oklahoma State won six straight bouts from 141 through 184 to claim a 25-12 win over the Mountain Hawks Dec. 8 at Historic Gallagher-Iba Arena. Junior Michael Beard and sophomore Nathan Taylor closed the dual on a high note with back-to-back wins, with Taylor knocking off his second ranked opponent of the season. Crookham won an 11-2 major decision over Reece Witcraft at 133, while Beard posted an 18-2 technical fall over Kyle Haas at 197. Taylor closed the dual with a 4-3 decision over Konner Doucet at 285, avenging a 2-1 loss to Doucet last year at Grace Hall. Oklahoma State won six straight from 141 through 184, scoring bonus points in three of those four victories.

Six Lehigh wrestlers appear in the latest rankings from FloWrestling, while five are ranked by InterMat and WrestleStat. Lehigh has four wrestlers ranked by both Amateur Wrestling News and The Open Mat. Ryan Crookham continues to lead the way with the No. 1 ranking at 133 in three of the five polls. Crookham owns a pair of top-five wins this season. He joins juniors Malyke Hines (141) and Michael Beard (197) and sophomore Nathan Taylor (285) are Lehigh wrestlers ranked across all five outlets. Junior Max Brignola is ranked by three outlets at 157, while junior Jake Logan remains in the Flo Wrestling rankings at 165.

Action on Friday begins at 10 a.m. from Stabler Arena. Tickets are available and can be purchased at LehighTickets.com.

Lehigh will send a contingent of wrestlers to the prestigious Midlands Championships, Dec. 29-30 in Hoffman Estates, Ill. The Mountain Hawks will kick off 2024 with a contingent at the Jan. 5 David H. Lehman F&M Open in Lancaster, Pa. The dual season resumes when Lehigh hosts EIWA rivals Binghamton and Cornell, Jan. 12-13 inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall.

The 2023-24 Lehigh wrestling season is presented by the Historic Hotel Bethlehem.
