Forkner and Dania Highlight ITA Regionals

NEW YORK - Lehigh women's tennis sent four student-athletes to the ITA Regionals, which was held at Columbia University Oct. 6-8. First-year Maggie Forkner and senior Megha Dania both led the way as they made it to the round of 32 in the singles matches.Â
Junior Allyce Gaborik battled against Emily Ruckno out of Army West Point and was defeated 6-1, 6-2 in the first round.
Anushka Dania dropped both of her sets 6-4, 6-0Â to Anastasia Gubanova of Saint Bonaventure.Â
Forkner won her first set Friday 7-6, lost the second set 6-3, but was able to finish strong in the final set, defeating Deniz Soyer out of Hofstra 10-8. Forkner advanced to the round of 64 and was winning the first set 5-0, but Clarine Lerby out of Columbia had to forfeit due to injury.Â
Forkner advanced to the round of 32 on Sunday, where she was ultimately defeated 6-3, 7-6 to Army's Ylan Duong.
Megha Dania defeated Binghamton's Caterina Casadei 6-3, 6-2 in the first round. Dania advanced to the round of 64, but her opponent had to withdraw due to injury. Dania was defeated in the round of 32 to Long Island's Leopoldine Boisseau, falling 6-1, 6-1.Â
The Mountain Hawks had two groups of doubles. Gaborik and Forkner suffered a 8-4 loss in the first round to Saint John's Victoria Papadopoulou and Camila Ordonez.Â
Anushka Dania and Megha Dania pulled out a hard-fought victory against Saint Francis' Diana Zuba and Reagan Mangan 8-7 to advance to the next round. The Danias fell 8-6 in the round of 64 to Penn's Esha Velaga and Maya Urata.Â
The Mountain Hawks will close out the final season when they host the Lehigh Hidden Dual on Oct. 21-22.Â
