Mountain Hawks blanked by Rider in Liberty Bell Classic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball team's offensive struggles continued Tuesday afternoon, totaling five hits and falling to Rider, 3-0 in the first round of the Liberty Bell Classic at J. David Walker Field. With the loss, the Mountain Hawks (13-11) have dropped four straight games and five of their last six.
Rider scored two of its runs in the top of the first inning off starter Teddy Tolliver (1-1) who was dealt with the loss. The other was scored in the top of the fifth inning when the batter reached on a fielder's choice and the runner at second scored to take a 3-0 lead. Ryan Deom, Val Taddei, Marcus Danchision and Timmy Kenney combined to throw 4.2 shutout innings to close the contest.
Offensively, two of Lehigh's five hits were on bunt singles while Casey Rother went 2-for-4 with a double and Riley Davis went 2-for-3. Davis increased his reached base streak to 20 consecutive games in the defeat. Tyler Young recorded the other knock for the Lehigh offense.
Socrates Bardatsos and Brendan O'Donnell both went 2-for-4 to lead the Broncs' offense which tallied 10 base hits.
Lehigh will look to get back to a winning mentality this weekend against Navy Saturday and Bucknell Sunday at J. David Walker Field. Both doubleheaders will start at noon.
