Friendly competition highlights Mountain Hawks' super day at ESU Invite

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Despite competing against each other, the Lehigh men's swimming and diving team put together a strong effort in the final competition prep before the start of Patriot League Championships Feb. 16, swimming to strong times at the ESU Invite at Koehler Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Nicholas Gewartowski and first-year Hyoseon Lee were impressive, both picking up a pair of victories on the afternoon in their respective events. Gewartowski claimed victory in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.41) as well as the 50-yard freestyle (21.94), beating out senior Owen Thomas (22.14), Elvin Lee (22.21), Janik Wing (22.27) and Glenn Lasco (22.31), who finished fifth.
Lee got his wins in the 100 (58.17) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.53) events to lead the way.
The Mountain Hawks opened the meet with Thomas, Connor Sept, Miles Cox and Caleb Eberly placing first in the 200-yard medley relay (1:35.05).
Lasco picked up a win in the 100-yard backstroke (52.69), narrowly beating out Wing (53.89) and Eberly (54.89). Connor Goodyear got his win in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:52.62 and Alex Patti (46.49) topped Owen Thomas (46.69) by .20 in the 100-yard freestyle.
Cox swam alone in the 200-yard backstroke to compete for timing, swimming a 1:55.80, while Aiden McCurley also competed by himself in the 500-yard freestyle (4:51.43).
It was a photo finish in the 100-yard butterfly with Gavin Newcamp (52.67) finishing in front of Jake Stafford (52.96) and Hyoseon Lee (52.98). Elvin Lee (1:55.39) scored a win in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing just .05 seconds faster than Goodyear (1:55.44) for the first-place finish.
The afternoon finished with the team of Tim Norris, Nick Lynam, Goodyear and Lasco swimming a 1:27.96 in the 200-yard freestyle relay, beating out Patti, Andrew Sukach, Sean Davis and Connor Drucis (1:31.41).
Lehigh has officially wrapped its regular season campaign and will begin the intense training for the start of Patriot League Championships on Feb. 16 in Annapolis, Md.
