Men's 200-yard medley relay breaks school record after first day of Patriots

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – It was a fast first day of the Patriot League Championships on Wednesday night as the Lehigh men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in its first events of the meet at Lejeune Pool on the campus of the United States Naval Academy. After the first three events and the first day of competition, the men sit sixth of 10 teams at 56 points and the women rank ninth of 10 team with 28 points.

Three final events took place Wednesday evening, kicked off by the 200-yard medley relay, the men's three-meter dive and the 800-yard freestyle relay.

The night was headlined by the men's contingent of Owen Thomas, Connor Sept, Miles Cox and Glenn Lasco in the 200-yard medley relay, swimming to a time of 1:29.69 for a fifth-place finish, breaking the Lehigh men's school record in the event by .14 seconds, a record that was previously held by Thomas, Tyler Christ, Teddy Smith and Greg Giannella back in 2019.

The record marked the Mountain Hawks' first school record broken all season on either the men's or women's side this year.

In the men's 800 free relay, Lehigh placed eighth of 10 teams with a time of 6:47.98 as the team of Alex Patti, Keagan Casey, Connor Goodyear and Nicholas Gewartowski finished four seconds ahead of Holy Cross and eight seconds ahead of Colgate.

On the diving board, senior Addison Cochran qualified for the B-Final of the three-meter dive, ending up finishing 11th with a finals score of 217.40. He had scored a 232.70 in the prelims earlier in the afternoon. His performance earned the Mountain Hawks six points for the event.

On the women's side, the Mountain Hawks ended up being disqualified in the 200-yard medley relay with the quartet of Hallie Wilson, Danielle Prekop, Sarah Hardy and Ann Foley.

The team of Grace Rogowski, Sarah Manthorp, Willa Werwaiss and Maggie Mikalic performed well in the 800-freestyle relay, finishing fifth with a time of 7:31.31.

A total of six events take place on Thursday in Day 2 of the Patriot League Championships with a series of preliminary heats beginning at 10 a.m. Tomorrow's lineup includes the 500-yard freestyle with Jordan MacDonald, Willa Werwaiss, Maggie Mikalic, Natalie Martin and Julia Stevens representing the women, while Nick Lynam, Sean Davis, Connor Goodyear and Keagan Casey swim for the men.

That event is followed up by the 200-yard IM with Kelsey Thompson, Sarah Horne, Danielle Prekop and Sarah Hardy swimming on the women's side and Gavin Newcamp, Miles Cox, and Owen Thomas going for the men.

The final event of the day is the 50-yard freestyle with the contingent of Hallie Wilson, Sarah Manthorp, Noel Fresa and Ann Foley going for the women and the men led by Janik Wing, Connor Sept, Joe Huber, Nicholas Gewartowski, Caleb Eberly, Alex Patti, Aiden McCurley and Glenn Lasco.
