Mountain Hawks and Leopards Set to Square Off Wednesday Night in Easton

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following an exciting 3-3 draw vs. Army West Point to open Patriot League play, the Lehigh women's soccer team hits the right on Wednesday to face rival Lafayette. Opening kickoff in Easton is set for 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks remain undefeated at home this season, while eying their first road victory in Wednesday's important league contest.

Lehigh jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead vs. the Black Knights Saturday, getting goals from junior Ryelle Shuey at 6:11 and sophomore Ava Schaller at 9:08. That score stood until the 70:04 mark when Army pulled within 2-1. That started a barrage of four goals (three by Army) in the span of 6:04. After the Black Knights tied it at two, junior Julianna Bonner scored her third goal in the last two home games on a beautiful header into the corner of the net. Less than a minute after that, though, Army pulled even again, which stood as the final.

The three goals for Lehigh were its most against Army since 2004 while Army's three were its most in the all-time series since 2003.

The Mountain Hawks stand 2-4-1 overall. Schaller leads the team in goals (3, tied), assists (3) and points (3). Bonner is right behind with three goals and an assist for seven points. Senior Erin Keefe continues to anchor the defense; she made a pair of team saves on Saturday, along with a big blocked shot in the final minutes of double overtime, to earn Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors. Freshman Abby Trainor started in goal Saturday, making seven stops. She owns a 1.55 goals against average and 72.2 save percentage on the season.

Lafayette are 2-5 on the young season, 0-1 in Patriot League play. The Leopards' wins have come over Saint Peter's (2-1) and NJIT (1-0) before falling last time out at Boston University (2-1). Melissa Lamanna scored her team-leading third goal of the season in the 13th minute to give Lafayette a 1-0 advantage, but the Terriers responded with goals in the 79th and 89th minutes. Lamanna's six points lead the Leopards while Katie Butler owns four via a goal and team-leading two assists. A pair of goalkeepers have seen time, led by Natalie Neumann, who's tallied a 1.33 goals against average and 70.0 save percentage in 405 minutes.

Lehigh leads the all-time series with Lafayette, 19-9-2. Last season, the teams didn't play for the first time in program history. They were scheduled to close out the regular season, but the schedule was adjusted and the Mountain Hawks made up a game with Loyola instead. The last time they met, the Leopards won 2-0 at Lafayette. Prior to that, Lehigh had won two straight – 4-1 in 2018 and 2-0 in 2017. Lehigh won the first-ever meeting between the two sides, 2-1 in 1991.

Following Wednesday's game, the Mountain Hawks will host Holy Cross on Sunday at 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
