BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a weekend that featured its fair share of highlight moments, the Lehigh women's soccer team returns to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday to host Army West Point in the Patriot League opener for both sides. Opening kickoff is set for 5 p.m. on ESPN+ as the first game of a Lehigh soccer doubleheader (before the men welcome Loyola at 7:30).
Â
Last time out, the Mountain Hawks dropped a 1-0 final at Seton Hall. In an evenly-matched contest, the Pirates scored the game's only goal in the third minute. Lehigh fired five shots on goal over the game's final 26:53, but couldn't net the equalizer.
Â
So far, Lehigh stands 2-0 overall, but 0-4 on the road. The Mountain Hawks have scored six goals over their two games, including four last Thursday vs. Wagner. Lehigh's four-goal margin (4-0 win) was the Mountain Hawks' largest since 2016. Junior Julianna Bonner scored the first two goals, in the span of 8:44, as she was named Patriot League Midfielder of the Week.
Â
Army West Point stands 3-4-1 on the season following a 2-0 loss to Air Force Thursday. The Black Knights stand 3-2-0 at home and 0-2-1 on the road. After three straight wins (vs. Marist, Saint Peter's and William & Mary), the Black Knights lost at Vermont then played to a scoreless draw at Vermont before the Air Force defeat. Dara Murray leads the team in points with five via two goals and an assist. Trinity Garay has two goals as well while Jasmine Talley owns a goal and team-leading two assists. Two goalkeepers have each started multiple games; Taylor Stalheim owns a 1.69 goals against average and 73.1 save percentage in four starts while Sage Strohman has a 0.71 GAA and 88.0 save percentage in four starts as well.
Â
The Black Knights lead the all-time series, 20-8-5. The sides first met in Lehigh's first-ever season of 1991, a 3-0 Army win in West Point. Most recently, Army has won three straight, all via 1-0 finals. Prior to that, the Mountain Hawks had wins of 2-0 in 2017 and 1-0 in 2016. Lehigh and Army met in the 2010 Patriot League Championship Game, a 1-0 Mountain Hawks' victory.
Â
Following Saturday's game, Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Lafayette to face the Leopards. Gametime is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
