La Salle downs Mountain Hawks in non-league clash

Highlighted by solid offensive performances from junior Casey Rother and senior Eric Cichocki, the duo combined for five hits in seven at bats. Rother went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Cichocki went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and three runs scored. With his trio of base hits, Rother extends his reached base streak to 21 straight games.
Lehigh made quick work of the La Salle starting pitcher in the top of the first inning, as Cichocki led off the contest with a double and Gerard Sweeney knocked him in with a single to left center field to give the Mountain Hawks an early 1-0 lead.
Between the first second innings however, the Explorers scored seven runs to take a 7-1 lead.
Rother picked up his first of two RBI singles in the third inning and was followed by an RBI single through the right side off the bat of Andrew Nole, making it a 7-3 game.
La Salle scored eight in the third inning to take a 15-3 lead, but the Mountain Hawks got three back in the top of the fourth on a ground out from Sweeney and a two-RBI single for Rother.
The Explorers scored runs No. 16, 17 and 18 in the fourth inning to lead 18-6 until sophomore right hander Ben Christian shut down the La Salle offense in relief, going two full innings without giving up a run, allowing two hits and striking out three batters.
Freshman southpaw Drew Morse was charged with the loss in his first career start, only pitching an inning, while giving up five runs, three earned on four hits with two walks and a strikeout.
The Mountain Hawks return to J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park on Saturday for a Patriot League doubleheader against Bucknell starting at noon.
