
Hurly, Mountain Hawks Lead ABARTA Collegiate Invitational After Round One

HELLERTOWN, Pa. – An impressive round of 10 under par 278 has the Lehigh men's golf team in front after the opening round of Lafayette's ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational, Sunday at the Steel Club. All six Lehigh entrants shot 77 or better on Sunday, led by a blistering six under par 66 by sophomore David Hurly, who holds the individual 18 hole lead.
The Mountain Hawks hold a 13 stroke lead over St. Bonaventure and Villanova heading into Monday's final round.
Lehigh's low player in each of its first two tournaments, Hurly picked up where he left off. Starting on the 10th hole, Hurly birdied 12, 13, 17 and 18 to shoot 32 on his first nine holes. He birdied three more holes on his second nine and eagled the par 5 fifth hole. The only blemishes in Hurly's round were a double bogey on two and a bogey on eight. Hurly holds a four stroke lead over six players, including classmates Sam Barton and Joey Dotta.
Barton's opening round 70 featured three birdies in his first nine holes and just one bogey, while Dotta recorded four birdies against two birdies.
Freshman Edmund Broderick was the fourth Mountain Hawk to shoot par or better, carding an even par 72. Broderick's round included four birdies. He is tied for 10th place.
Senior Owen Quinn shot 76, with three birdies in his round, and is tied for 27th place. Freshman AJ Gilpin made three birdies and shot 35 over his first nine holes before finishing with a 77 as he sits in a tie for 38th place.
The 12-team ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational concludes with Monday's final round, which begins with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
