Mountain Hawks Sweep Races at Loyola

BALTIMORE – The Lehigh rowing team headed to Baltimore on Saturday and came out on top in all four races it entered against Patriot League foe Loyola. The Mountain Hawks' Women's Varsity Eight finished with the largest margin, more than 56 seconds ahead of the Greyhounds.

"We had a great day down in Baltimore against Loyola, who is another Patriot League contender each and every year," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "We love racing them. With everything going on with COVID, it was great to be able to line up against another Patriot League team. All the boats raced incredibly hard into a decent headwind. Not anything significant, but it was definitely a little bit more challenging conditions than we've seen. It was great that our team was able to handle those conditions."

Setting the tone, the Women's Varsity Eight finished in 7:24.25, ahead of Loyola who came in 8:20.34. The Men's Varsity Eight had a time of 6:36.7, while the Greyhounds came in 7:06.8.

"It was the most consistent and strongest piece I've seen the Women's Varsity Eight have from start to finish," said Conley. "It was great to see them put that together, but at the same point, all our boats were able to do that too. I thought the Women's Eight set the tone for the day and really defined the day."

In addition, Lehigh's Women's Second Varsity Eight finished in first (7:54.45), as did the Men's Varsity Four (7:16.24).

Both the Lehigh men and women return to action next Sunday, Apr. 18, against Manhattan in Leonia, N.J.
