Field hockey heads to Boston in pursuit of a Patriot League Tournament berth. All that and more in this week's Lehigh Athletics Weekend Preview.

As announced March 5, The Lehigh University COVID-19 Response Team approved a request from the Athletics Department to permit a limited number (2) of Lehigh team guests (submitted in advance) to attend our outdoor home sports events, and enter the permanent seating area of our venues, which is well-defined by fencing and gates at some venues and that will be defined and secured at other venues.  The two guests will be expected to adhere to all University and Athletics Department health and safety protocols (PDF) throughout their visit to our Goodman Campus.  Visiting team guests are not permitted inside our venues at this time unless directly communicated to the visiting team for a specific event.

Baseball
After dropping its last two games on Monday and Wednesday, the Lehigh baseball team gets back to work with a crucial four-game series this weekend against Army West Point. The Mountain Hawks host the Black Knights on Saturday at noon from J. David Walker Field for a doubleheader and will travel to West Point for a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. Lehigh is 12-9 overall with a 9-4 record in Patriot League play and will turn to junior right-hander Mason Black for his first home Patriot League start since 2019. Offensively, the Mountain Hawks are led by Patriot League Player of the Week Casey Rother, who is second in the league in batting average at .368. Army West Point is coming off a loss to Fordham on Tuesday but most recently swept Lafayette in four games April 3-4 weekend. Righty Patrick Melampy leads the team with a 2-2 record and a 3.23 ERA. Junior outfielder Nick Manesis leads the Black Knights with a .318 batting average and three homers.

Field Hockey
Standing 2-2 with one regular season game remaining, the Mountain Hawks travel to Boston University Sunday for a critical matchup against the Terriers. Gametime is 1 p.m. on ESPN+. Lehigh needs a win to advance to the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2011. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a hard-fought 2-0 defeat at American, Lehigh's smallest margin at American since 2001. Sophomore Maddie Kahn finished with 10 saves to anchor the defense while the Mountain Hawks earned a number of strong opportunities, but couldn't put one home. Lehigh is hoping this regular season finale is similar to last (2019) season, when the Mountain Hawks beat the Terriers in overtime by a 2-1 final. This year, Boston University is 3-0 and in first place in the Patriot League, earning a trio of one-goal victories over Holy Cross, Lafayette and Colgate. The Terriers haven't played, though, since Mar. 27 due to cancellations.

Men's Golf
The Mountain Hawks will stay local for their third event of the spring as Lehigh will play in Lafayette's ABARTA Coca-Cola Intercollegiate, Sunday and Monday at The Steel Club in Hellertown. Lehigh finished eighth earlier this week at Villanova's Wildcat Invitational. Sophomore David Hurly led the Mountain Hawks for the second straight tournament, finishing in a tie for sixth place. Hurly has shot 71, 70 and 73 in his first three rounds this season. Lehigh is a regular participant in Lafayette's Invitational and finished 13th out of 19 teams in this event back in 2019. The Mountain Hawks and Leopards will also play their annual Presidents' Cup match play event April 22 at Hamilton Farms Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J.

Men's Lacrosse
No. 7 Lehigh is ready for a pair of games this weekend against rival Lafayette as the Mountain Hawks travel to Easton Friday night (7:30 p.m.) before hosting the Leopards on Sunday at 12 p.m. on Senior Day. Friday's contest can be seen on ESPN+ while Sunday's game will be televised by CBS Sports Network. Standing 6-0 on the season, the Mountain Hawks are one of just three remaining undefeated teams in the nation. Lehigh's 13-7 win over No. 19 Navy marked its 10th straight win dating back to last season, tied with Maryland for the longest active streak in the nation. The Mountain Hawks' six streak wins to start a season are one shy of tying a program record. Last time out, Lehigh used an 8-1 first-half run to take an 8-2 halftime advantage, on the way to its third win over a ranked opponent of the season. Head coach Kevin Cassese enters the weekend with 114 career victories, one from tying and two from breaking John McCloskey's program record of 115. This weekend will mark the first time since 1941 that Lehigh and Lafayette will meet twice in a season. The Mountain Hawks clinched the South Division last weekend and each win gets them closer to the overall No. 1 seed and right to host the Patriot League Tournament.

Women's Lacrosse - Note new start time as of 2:30 p.m. on April 16.
Riding high after a huge 12-7 win over No. 21 Navy, the Mountain Hawks take the short drive to Easton on Saturday to face the Leopards. Opening draw has been moved up to 11 a.m. to allow for ESPN+ coverage. With its win over the Midshipmen, Lehigh clinched a spot in its seventh straight Patriot League Tournament. In the midst of a back-and-forth game, the Mountain Hawks scored the game's final six goals to turn a 7-6 deficit into a 12-7 win. Graduate student Sondra Dickey began the run with three consecutive goals before sophomore Katia Carnevale scored her fifth and sixth of the game, then classmate Gabby Schneider rounded out the scoring. Dickey and seniors Hannah Cermack and Samantha Sagi were all recognized with Patriot League weekly awards on Monday – with Dickey being named Midfielder of the Week, Cermack garnering Defensive Player of the Week and Sagi winning Goalkeeper of the Week. Defensively, Lehigh held Navy to 20 shots, despite the Mids holding a 14-7 edge in draw controls. A large part was due to 17 Navy turnovers, 12 of which were caused by the Mountain Hawks. In the end, the seven Navy goals were the fewest Lehigh has ever allowed in the all-time series. The Mountain Hawks enter the weekend 4-1 in the Patriot League, 3-1 in the South. Despite already clinching a tournament spot, Saturday's game at Lafayette could prove important in overall tournament seeding.

Racing is set to begin at 10 a.m. Last weekend, the Mountain Hawks enjoyed a strong effort at Patriot League foe Loyola. The Women's Varsity Eight led the way with its strong performance of the season, leading wire-to-wire for a nearly one-minute victory which earned the crew Patriot League Boat of the Week honors. The Women's Second Varsity Eight, Men's Varsity Eight and Men's Varsity Four were all victorious as well. The Mountain Hawks continue to improve ahead of their championship races – men's Mid-Atlantic Rowing Championship on Apr. 24 and women's Patriot League Championship on May 14.

Men's Soccer
The Mountain Hawks conclude their regular season Friday night against Colgate at 7 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Lehigh and Colgate have won the last five Patriot League Championships dating back to the 2015 season, but both missed the tournament in 2021. Led by First Team All-Patriot League selection Stevo Bednarsky, the Mountain Hawks haven't scored a goal since March 27 at Loyola after being shut out by both Lafayette (3-0) and Navy (2-0). Freshman goalkeeper Blake Koski was excellent against the Leopards, making a career-high eight saves. After having its regular season finale at Holy Cross canceled due to the Crusaders' campus-wide pause due to COVID-19, the Raiders are searching for their first win since March 27 at Army West Point. Colgate drew 0-0 at Bucknell its last time out. The Raiders' top goal scorer and points getter is Aidan Davock with two and four, respectively. Lehigh beat Colgate on the road, 2-1 the last time out on October 2, 2019. The Raiders lead the all-time series, 16-14-7.
