Women's Tennis begins their season with first-ever win against Fairfield

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Competing as a team for the first time in 360 days, the Lehigh women's tennis team began its 2021 season with a 6-1 win over the Fairfield Stags inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The victory marked the first-ever win for the Mountain Hawks over the Stags.
Things got off to a good start for the Brown and White on Saturday with the opening point, as Lehigh obtained the doubles point. The Mountain Hawks won two doubles matches by a 6-3 score. Paula Gonzalez and Leighanna Moskos at the No. 1 spot and Anshika Singh and Junmoke James at the No. 3 spot.
In singles, Lehigh won five of the six singles bouts to come out of the match victorious. Competing at the No. 1 spot, the senior Gonzalez looked strong with a straight set win at 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Ella Imhof picked up another win in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. James, another sophomore, showed adversity and gutted out a three-setter, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
Competing at the No. 4 spot, first-year player Rachel Buchinsky showed huge potential with an easy 6-2, 6-2 win. Then at the No. 6 spot, the junior Singh capped off the day with a decisive 6-1, 7-5 win.
Up next, the Mountain Hawks will drive down to Baltimore next Sunday and go up against the Greyhounds of Loyola (Md.)
