No. 10 Mountain Hawks Remain Undefeated, Beat Colgate 15-10

3/28/2021 6:42:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Colgate pulled even at five in the third quarter, but the No. 10 Lehigh men's lacrosse team answered in a big way, going on a 4-0 run the span of 2:06 (a run that extended to 10-2), on the way to a 15-10 win on Sunday. The Mountain Hawks also opened Sunday's contest with four straight goals as the game of runs saw Lehigh open as much as a 15-7 lead before the Raiders scored three in the final three minutes to pull within five at the final horn. The Mountain Hawks improve to 4-0 on the season, 3-0 in Patriot League play ahead of a top 10 matchup vs. Army West Point on Saturday.

Junior Tommy Schelling led Lehigh's offense with a season-high five goals, along with an assist for six points. Classmate Cole Kirst recorded his second straight hat trick after tallying the first of his career last time out at Bucknell. Sophomore John Sidorski tied career highs for goals (2) and points (4). Classmate Christian Mule' scored twice as well.
Defensively, senior Teddy Leggett collected four groundballs and caused a turnover. Junior faceoff specialist Mike Sisselberger was sensational once again, recording career highs in faceoffs won (19), faceoffs taken (25) and groundballs (15).

Mule', Kirst, Schelling and freshman Scott Cole accounted for Lehigh's first four goals and a 4-0 advantage in the second quarter. The Raiders responded with the next three and five of the next six to pull even at five early in the third quarter.
That's when the Mountain Hawks took over. Sidorski, sophomore Justin Tiernan, Schelling and Kirst all scored in just over a two-minute span. After a Colgate score pulled the Raiders within 10-6, Lehigh staged another 4-0 run. Schelling began the fourth quarter with his fourth and fifth goals of the afternoon to take a 13-6 advantage. The lead reached 15-7 after senior Justin Angelel's first-career goal with 3:10 remaining.
Colgate scored three goals in the final 2:56, but it wasn't nearly enough as Lehigh wrapped up its sixth straight win over the Raiders.

The Mountain Hawks finished with a 41-35 edge in shots while groundballs were even at 29. Senior James Spence made eight saves over the first 56:50 before being replaced by freshman Nick Pecora, who made one. Colgate's Sean Collins finished with 13 stops.

Lehigh will return home on Saturday for the first time in nearly a month as the Mountain Hawks host No. 8 Army West Point at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
