Seeds, Brackets Announced For NCAA Wrestling Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh's 10 NCAA qualifiers learned their seeds and first round opponents as seeds and brackets for next week's NCAA Championships in St. Louis were announced Wednesday.
The Mountain Hawks are one of three teams to qualify all 10 wrestlers, joining Iowa and Missouri.
The highest seeded Lehigh wrestler is four-time EIWA champion Jordan Wood, who earned the No. 8 seed at 285. Wood's first round opponent is No. 25 John Birchmeier of Navy.
Lehigh's next highest seed went to EIWA champion Jaret Lane, who is seeded 14th at 125. The junior will open his first NCAA Tournament against No. 19 Eric Barnett of Wisconsin.
Fresh off winning his first EIWA title, senior Jake Jakobsen earned the No. 16 seed at 197. His first round opponent will be a familiar face in No. 17 JT Brown of Army. Jakobsen handed Brown his only two losses this season, including a 3-0 decision in the EIWA finals.
The Mountain Hawks' fourth EIWA champion, freshman Malyke Hines, is the No. 17 seed at 133. His first round opponent is No. 16 Devan Turner of Oregon State.
Lehigh's fifth EIWA finalist, junior Jimmy Hoffman, is seeded 22nd at 149. His first round opponent is No. 11 Kanen Storr of Michigan.
At 141, freshman Connor McGonagle is the No. 24 seed and will face the MAC champion, No. 9 Dresden Simon of Central Michigan in the first round.
Freshman Luca Frinzi will be the first Mountain Hawk on the mats Thursday in St. Louis. Frinzi is the No. 33 seed at 157 and will wrestle a pigtail bout against No. 32 Michael Petite of Buffalo. The winner gets top seed Ryan Deakin of Northwestern.
Sophomore Brian Meyer is the No. 29 seed at 165 and opens with a tough test in 2019 NCAA Champion and fourth-seeded Mekhi Lewis of Virginia Tech.
Senior Dylan Ammerman also drew a Hokie in the opening round. Ammerman is seeded 28th at 184 and will open against No. 5 Hunter Bolen.
At 174, freshman Jake Logan is seeded 31st and will take on the No. 2 seed Demetrius Romero of Utah Valley in the first round.
Lehigh won is league-leading 38th EIWA championship and fourth straight team title Feb. 26 at Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Manheim, Pa.
Action at the 90th NCAA Championships begins Thursday March 18 from Enterprise Center in St. Louis and runs through Saturday March 20. There will be no Lehigh audio coverage of this year's tournament but the entire tournament will be televised on the ESPN family of networks with streaming video of every mat available on ESPN3 and the ESPN App. The schedule for this year's championship (with some tweaks to the normal schedule) is listed below.
