Track and Field concludes first event with positive outtakes

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Competing for the first time in 358 days, the Lehigh track and field programs finally returned to competition. The Mountain Hawks welcomed the Greyhounds of Loyola (Md.) to Rauch Fieldhouse. The men's team competed against each other in a Brown and White showdown, while the women's team battled against Loyola (Md.).
Starting with the women's side, Jamie Zamrin took home in the win in the mile run with a time of 5:0910. Hetty McMillan (5:15.49), Annalise Davis (5:16.46) and freshman Andrine Larsen (5:17.62) took the top four spots in the event. In the 800m, Natalie Condon and Carly Friend tallied the first two spots in a close finish. Condon (2:19.27) barely edged Friend (2:19.43) at the finish line.
Camari Griffin won the 200m with a time of 27.62, while Ashley Struck (27.74) and Morgan McConnell (27.93) took third and fourth. At the 60mH, the Brown and White took spots two through four, as Chae Kim placed second with a time of 9.51. Ashley Griesmeyer finished third at 9.65 and Brett DeWeese took fourth at 9.70.
In the pole vault, Carly Roche recorded a mark of 9'0". Roche attempted the mark of 9'6" but couldn't record the mark in her three attempts. Teasha McKoy took first in the weight throw at 16.17m (53'0.75"), while Veronica Meyer was right behind her in second at 13.57m.
In the high jump, the Mountain Hawks had three athletes recorded a mark at 5'4". Kerry Perna, Calista Marzolino and Rachel Sequeira all notched the mark. Perna was the lone Lehigh athlete to advance through the marks without a fail. The trio attempted the mark at 5'6" but couldn't accomplish the height. Maddy Harding finished fourth at 5'2".
On the men's side, the Greyhounds are without a track and field team, meaning that the Brown and White only competed against themselves on Sunday evening.
Starting with the mile run, Jacob Martinez finished first and bested his teammates with a time of 4:25.54. Freshman James Keaney (4:28.51) and Tyler French (4:30.97) took second and third for Lehigh. In the 200m, Samuel Tapera started the season off hot with a first-place finish at 23.55. Chris Tackett finished second with a time of 24.15, while Douglas Cooke recorded a third-place finish at 24.18. In the 60mH, freshman Dan Stipanov registered a time of 8.96.
In the weight throw, freshman Achilles Mouzakis edged his teammate Quinn Conlan for the victory. Mouzakis' mark of 13.02m (42'8.75") bested Conlan's 13.01m. Mouzakis' winning mark came on his last attempt. In the long jump, Ian Scott's dominating mark of 6.48m (21'3.25") was higher than Brittann Pierce's (5.81m) and Louis Logsdail's (4.98m).
Up next, Lehigh is scheduled to compete against Army West Point in the Patriot League Indoor Challenge at West Point, N.Y.
