
Another balanced effort leads Mountain Hawks past Davidson, 17-8

Freshman Emma Eberhardt was sensational offensively, posting career highs in goals (4), assists (5) and points (9). Classmate Gabby Schneider scored four goals and dished two assists. Senior Sondra Dickey filled up the box score with two goals, one assist, two groundballs, five draw controls and three caused turnovers. Making her first start of the season, senior Christine Balestra scored a career-high two goals.

Defensively, sophomore Emma McGillis tied for the team high in caused turnovers with three. Freshmen Schneider and Cassie Marte also tallied one caused turnover apiece.

Davidson jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but like they have all season, the Mountain Hawks responded. After scoring Lehigh's first goal of the game, Schneider tallied the team's second and third, beginning a 7-0 Mountain Hawks' surge. The run also included goals from Balestra, junior Hannah Cermack, Eberhardt and Dickey, to give Lehigh a 9-3 lead.

The Wildcats answered with goals at 2:25 and 1:03 on the clock, but two goals in the final 20 seconds – from Eberhardt and junior Cecily Redfern – gave Lehigh a 10-5 halftime advantage.
The scoring slowed in the second half, with the teams trading four goals over the first 14:05. Holding their five-point halftime edge with less than 10 minutes remaining, the Mountain Hawks erased any doubt by scoring five goals in the game's final 7:15. Eberhardt sparked the run, having a hand in four straight Lehigh goals (two goals, two assists) to turn a 12-7 lead into a 16-7 advantage.

After Davidson scored at the 2:33 mark, sophomore Nora Giordano scored her first of the season with 36 seconds remaining for the 17-8 final.
For the game, the Mountain Hawks held a 33-22 edge in shots and 25-15 advantage in groundballs. Davidson finished with a 17-11 edge in draw controls. The Wildcats had 21 turnovers compared to just 12 for Lehigh. For a second straight game, junior Samantha Sagi made 12 saves in goal and has now stopped 24-of-38 shots sent her way over the last two games.

Lehigh returns to action on Saturday when it travels to No. 3 Loyola to face the Greyhounds in the Patriot League opener for both sides.
