BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's lacrosse senior Sondra Dickey has become just the second student-athlete in program history to be named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation Tuesday. Lauren Dykstra in 2011 was the only other Mountain Hawks to ever be named to the watch list. Since 2001, the Tewaaraton Award has been presented annually to the top male and female college lacrosse player in the nation.
Â
Dickey put up big numbers in eight games during 2020, posting 32 goals, 10 assists, 13 groundballs, 14 caused turnovers and 30 draw controls. Dickey's goal total was sixth in the country while she was 12th nationally in points. The Conestoga, Pennsylvania native eclipsed 200 career points against La Salle, becoming just the seventh player in program history to reach the milestone. In that game against the Explorers, Dickey posted a career-high 10 points via seven goals and three assists. Dickey scored five or more goals in four of the eight games during her senior campaign, scoring seven at UMBC, five at Penn State and five at Vanderbilt. She was named Patriot League Midfielder of the Week on Feb. 17, her eighth-career weekly award.
Â
Dickey is a two-time first team All-Patriot League and second team All-Region honoree. Also in 2020, she became the program's all-time career leader for draw controls (199). Â
The Mountain Hawks ended the year 6-2, riding four straight victories, prior to the season cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Tewaaraton Award annual ceremony that was scheduled for May 28 at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., will not be held, and no college awards will be presented in 2020. For more information, please click here.
