Mountain Hawks garner additional honors from Inside Lacrosse

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Not only was the Lehigh men's lacrosse team ranked 20th in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook preseason national poll and senior Conor Gaffney was named an honorable mention All-American, but the Mountain Hawks also received additional recognition in the preseason yearbook. Most notably, Lehigh was ranked as the No. 2 specialist unit in the nation and Mountain Hawks were predicted third in the Patriot League, with seniors Gaffney, Andrew Pettit, Andrew Eichelberger and Christian McHugh all being named preseason All-League.

Specialist units included faceoff and defensive midfield. For the Moutnain Hawks, Gaffney and Mike Sisselberger (ranked as the top incoming faceoff specialist in last year's incoming class) make up a faceoff unit that's expected to be one of the best in the nation, and for good reason. Last season, Gaffney won just under 70 percent of his faceoffs, earning Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Year, while McHugh and junior Teddy Leggett were both named second team All-League. Lehigh only trails Yale in Inside Lacrosse's specialist unit rankings and is ahead of Ohio State (3), Penn (4) and Penn State (5).

In Inside Lacrosse's preseason league rankings, the Mountain Hawks trail Loyola (1) and Army West Point (2) and are ahead of Boston University (4), Holy Cross (5), Navy (6), Bucknell (7), Colgate (8) and Lafayette (9). Lehigh had four of IL's 13 preseason All-League honorees, tops in the Patriot League.

Also ranked No. 18 in the US Lacrosse Division I Men's Preseason Poll, the Mountain Hawks will open the 2020 season on Saturday, Feb. 8 vs. Utah at 1 p.m.
