Dickey named preseason All-Patriot League; Lehigh picked fifth in preseason poll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With the season opener quickly approaching Feb. 7 vs. Iona, the Patriot League announced its preseason awards on Tuesday. Senior Sondra Dickey was named preseason All-League while the Mountain Hawks were picked fifth in the poll, predicted to advance to the program's seventh straight Patriot League Tournament.

Lehigh's six consecutive league tournament berths are already a program record. Loyola captured first in the poll with 160 points and 16 first-place votes. The Greyhounds were followed by Navy (148 points, four first-place votes), Boston University (122) and Army West Point (104). After the Mountain Hawks came Colgate in sixth (85) followed by Holy Cross (56), American (46), Bucknell (36) and Lafayette (36). The top six teams advance to the Patriot League Tournament.

Dickey received individual recognition after an impressive first three seasons of her career. Last year, she led the Mountain Hawks in goals (53), points (67), groundballs (tied) (34), caused turnovers (28) and draw controls (78). The draw control total was good for third in program history. Dickey has been named first team All-Patriot League, second team All-Region and the program's Athlete of the Year in each of the last two seasons. She won Patriot League Midfielder of the Week three times as a junior and four times as a sophomore. Last season, Dickey tallied multiple points in all 17 games and multiple goals in 16-of-17 contests. As a sophomore, Dickey had 54 goals and 22 assists for 76 points. She enters her senior campaign with 95 groundballs, 169 draw controls and 63 caused turnovers.

The Mountain Hawks will open the 2020 season at home vs. Iona on Friday, Feb. 7. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m. on the Patriot League Network.
