Lehigh makes strong progress in final tune-up before Dad Vails
5/4/2019 9:11:00 PM | Men's Rowing
PHILADELPHIA – In its final competition before the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta next weekend, the Lehigh men's rowing team showed strong signs, competing against quality opponents on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia Saturday. Leading the way was the Varsity Eight which finished third, ahead of Delaware.
Â
"We did exactly what we came there to do," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "We closed the gap with Temple, which was our ultimate goal. Going into Dad Vails next week, I feel like we're pretty confident we can compete at that level. We were able to close the gap on Rutgers over the last 700 meters, which tells us that we have more speed to find. If we can do that, then there's no reason why we can't make the grand finals at Dad Vails."
Â
The Varsity Eight finished with a time of 5:53.8, ahead of Delaware (5:58.11) and not too far behind Temple (5:46.6) and Rutgers (5:52.6). The Second Varsity Eight also competed on Saturday, posting a time of 6:17.6.
Â
Lehigh will return to action next weekend at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. The Mountain Hawks will have entries in the Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Junior Varsity Four.
