Junior Varsity Four advances to Grand Final to highlight day one of Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA – The Lehigh Men's Junior Varsity Four led the way on Friday as the crew advanced to the grand finals of the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. The crew is the first men's boat to advance to the grand finals at Dad Vails in head coach Brian Conley's (nine-year) tenure at Lehigh. In addition, the Varsity Eight and Varsity Four both competed, advancing to fourth and fifth-level finals, respectively.
"We had a mixed day overall with some highs and lows," Conley said. "The JV4+ was the boat of the day with two great races in the time trial and semifinal. They made it to Saturday and making it to Saturday at Vails is always a success. We wish all the boats were in the grand finals, but we have one boat that will race for medals and is the first boat from Lehigh to do so in a number of years."
The Junior Varsity Four put forth an impressive time of 6:45.831 in the time trial before finishing in second of its semifinal (7:31.601) to reach the grand final, set for Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Varsity Eight came in 19th of its time trial with a time of 6:04.212, advancing to the fourth-level final on Saturday at 10 a.m.
The Varsity Four placed 29th with a time of 7:29.349 to reach the fifth-level final on Friday where it finished fourth (7:52.170).
The Mountain Hawks wrap up their season on Saturday when the Varsity Eight competes at 10 a.m. and the Junior Varsity Four at 2:30 p.m.
"We look to race hard and leave it all out there tomorrow," Conley said. "It's the only way to finish a season and that's to take the last stroke of the race knowing you can't take another one and that's the goal tomorrow."
